ABC's primetime soap REVENGE: S1/S2 discussion herein

I didn't realize it would be, but it was SUCH A RELIEF when she finally told somebody what was what last night. I just wanted someone, just one person, outside the Emily/Amanda/Nolan/Takeda circle to know what was going on.

^ otm, it was such an "at last!" moment. also i think I mentioned in the other thread that I goddamn love mason treadwell, the shot of him "confessing" in jail while pacing + making dramatic gestures was so great

And actually, she didn't even tell. She led him right to it and he figured it out on his own and she gave the most devilish grin I've ever seen her give.

I might actually watch that scene again tonight when I get home.

I wasn't too into the idea of a flashback episode, but this was done so masterfully. Filled in a ton of gaps and, once again, peeled the layers back on each of the main characters so that none of them are wholly sympathetic or wholly detestable. (Except for Conrad, maybe. He's wholly detestable.)

And even though I know Aidan's backstory now, I still think he's a stiff and a largely useless addition.

Is this worth the effort, then? Only watched the pilot but seemed like it could be a decent timewaster while Gossip Girl's on Christmas break.

Was thinking of giving this ep a miss (I didn't enjoy S1's flashback ep) but JF has convinced me otherwise!

this was much better than the S1 flashback ep, for one they didn't put jack in that ridiculous wig. also I don't like aiden generally but I thought he was much more palatable in flashback.

it snuck up on me quietly, but I've found that I really enjoy conrad's presence on the show.

I find conrad's voice mesmerizing.

I don't even watch this show anymore, but my brother-in-law and his wife just named their baby Nolan because the wife loves Revenge. I can't stop laughing.

at least there's not even the hint of any possible scandal that could derail his campaign...wait.
then again if he breaks out his super cool low voice he could prob convince anyone to vote for him.

Lots of people in the comments on tv news sites (yeah, I know) seem to think the show has returned to form after the winter break because Emily is going after specific people again—"the return of the red sharpie"—but I was actually really digging the tone shift they made in the first half of the season.

Just finanly watched the finale.

i just watched (and enjoyed!) the s3 premiere, the new showrunner handwaved-away like four of last season's dumber plotlines in a hilariously transparent manner.

^yeah this was great, esp the bit where Emily's all like "Let's never bring up that stupid computer virus plotline ever again."

enjoyed Emily and Victoria being evil together too.

this show has really gotten its mojo back after the shakiness of season 2.

have not watched the latest episode yet but yes. Even though Emily appears to be kinda bad at REVENGE!!! now.

Also, Nolan's outfits are even more awesome/ridiculous than usual this season, like that time he wore a t-shirt with his own mugshot on it. <3

Oookay, I gave up when I started S2 but you all are convincing me to return to the fold while I wait for Scandal to be on Netflix (in like 9 months, sob).

To be clear, I no longer think of this show as OMG ESSENTIAL VIEWING. S2 was pretty bad, and S3 is better but nowhere near as good as S1 was. I'm just in so deep now that I'm sticking with it.

I'm reading back in the thread and discovering that I sort of liked S2 as it was happening, but in hindsight it was way too crowded with about 80 things all happening at once and some of it just positively stoopid.

So if the revenge is supposed to wrap up in five weeks and we've already seen it happen in a flash forward clip, where does the show go from there?

Also, Aiden remains entirely pointless.

Something will go wrong obvs - Emily's plans never turn out the way the flash forwards suggest.

tbh I don't think I actually care about what happens - I just enjoy watching Madeleine Stowe chewing scenery and admiring whatever Nolan is wearing.

My favorite moments in the show are when the curtain gets pulled back for someone. When Mason figured out who she is. When she told Jack. When Nolan told Jack he'd always known. afaic the rest of the show can just be setups for her to reveal to people "HAHA! I'M NOT EMILY THORNE! I'M AMANDA CLARKE!"

I bet Charlotte is the one who shoots her, because soap opera.

they came back strong after what i thought was a so-so midseason finale. so much scenery-chewing! also i love the scenes where it's just aiden, nolan, and jack standing around fretting about emily, it's like an inverted bechdel test scenario.

Oh Charlotte, the first thing this person suffering from amnesia is David Clarke and you're just like, "that's strange…moving on then" as soon as Jack says that it's no biggie.

i am still watching this even though it has gotten very very very dumb. the latest crop of new characters are uniformly annoying, and our spoilery new male lead has an unfortunate case of batman voice going on.

I'm three episodes behind. I will get around to them, though, because this is almost certainly the final season and I need to see how this all plays out.

Canceled. I'm once again three episodes behind, but since the finale is coming this weekend I guess I'd better binge through them.
