linguistic help ?

i want to learn the basics of indian grammar. is this a realistic goal for someone whose prior language training lies in european romance languages ? what's the name the of the alphabet that modern india uses ?

can anyone reccomend any sites ?

hmm. study the devanagari script - most stuff is built off that.

if you want to study sanskrit grammar, good fuckin' luck - that's some of the hardest stuff i have evah tried to learn (it makes german grammar look way easy)

it's not offered at my university. i'm interested for personal reasons.

i just want to get some idea of the history and nuts and bolts of the language.

I know someone who knows Sanskrit; she claims it is the hardest language to learn, but others have said this of Mandarin, I believe. Is there such a thing as Indian grammar? Do Hindi, Urdu, Bengali et al have a common grammar?

my father knows Hindi, can't remember exactly but I don't think they do have a common grammar.
