Jarvis Cocker hanging from a lamp-post in new BT Broadband ad, C/D

Aside from the obvious question of "Is he skint already?", why is it that after spending two albums and 6 years trying to escape from his old "Common People"-esque image, and claiming in interviews that he's moved on from that and everything and he's not a celebrity anymore, he has to appear in a British Telecom Broadband ad appearing as his old 1995 self (glasses, suit and hair and all)?

to say nothing of tonight Matthew I'll be Rolf on Stars In Their Eyes.

The fact that Island Records have just dropped Pulp may not be unrelated.

Remember he was in an advert for... Nat West (I think) a few years back. In cartoon form, but still...

i think that was done without his permission - after a week or so a new version of the ad appeared with all his bits cut out.

i stand corrected:

nme.com pulp biog:
Jun 1999: With his permission, a Jarvis lookalike figure appears in a NatWest bank TV commercial, while another, unsanctioned Cocker doppelganger is appearing in a Eurostar ad.

I got that too, Graham. I wrote back and said that if they can provide records of a single occasion in the last three months when I had been online for over 12 hours a day I would apologise and behave better in future, but otherwise I expected an apology from them. They wrote back and said that I would have to pay them if they were to produce such evidence - but I haven't heard again since. So far.

Finally saw the ad round Suzy's the other day. It is hysterically funny. You could have nightmares about popstars errupting out of the internet like that...
