Have seen 4 hours, going for the other 20 this time.

I wouldn't want to see a complete shot listing, it's kinda not the point.

most overrated work of art of the last five years....should have been called "guess the movie". the guy did it much better 30 years ago (see his brilliant "Telephones" on you tube)
― Iago Galdston, Saturday, 15 December 2012 18:01 (thirteen years ago)
ah baloney! i wasn't even trying to guess the movie if i didn't recognize it.

it really is an overblown whole lot of nothing--please tell me what makes it better than three decades of appropriation art other than the gimmick of a 24 hour piece synced to real time...he himself has made much better pieces using the same technique.

If you ever see his Video Quartet (four screen mashup of musical clips ranging from punk to big band to Marx Brothers), it is eons better than this hollow spectacle
― Iago Galdston, Saturday, 15 December 2012 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
I skipped the first 3 decades of appropriation art, time is precious.

haven't seen the clock yet but quartet is magnificent, & the inability to re-see it beyond the poverty of youtube is deeply frustrating

lame, morbs, you know what i mean, or maybe you don't. i'm just saying that if you are the slightest bit familiar with what artists have been doing with found material since the late 70s, (it actually goes back to the 30s in film), then this is nothing more than a triumph of marketing and a spectacularization of something that used to have at least a sliver of criticality. but if this thread is for stans only, have at it. sorry to interrupt.

I'm just funnin', but I did find it entrancing, what can I tell ya. When you prioritize cinema it's not easy to be an Art chaser in other media, and I'm not of that breed.

I hear ya...I'm in the real minority on disliking Clock, believe me.

VIDEO QUARTET is magnificent, but then so is THE CLOCK, imho - i don't think one negates the other.
I've only seen a couple of hours of THE CLOCK (roughtly 1pm-3pm) but i was surprised at how much work Marclay had done to the soundtrack; the way he's manipulated the 'found' sound is in itself a remarkable bit of mixology (in fact, my admiration for THE CLOCK is p 'rockist' i guess, in that i was wowed by it in part because it's a mind-boggling feat of technical virtuosity.) of course it was nice - and pure cinephiliac headrush - to recognise some of the films, but their sudden emission into this continual flow really does offer instant re-contexualisation (a moment from MIGHTY APHRODITE was unexpectedly hilarious).
I think I'm right in saying that THE CLOCK is now on permanent display on a big screen at Tate Modern in London - p close to ideal viewing conditions, i wld think, so Strongo should wait to see it there! Failing that, it should be screened continually in the centre of every major city in the world - ppl wld always know what time it is, then
also want to put a gd word for his GUITAR DRAG, which i saw, nice and loud, at an excellent David Toop-curated Sound Art exhibition on the Southbank (tho' the real star of that show was an AMAZING outdoor piece by Christina Kubisch)

Coming to SFMOMA in April-end of May. Look for a couple of 24 hr screenings.

I think I'm right in saying that THE CLOCK is now on permanent display on a big screen at Tate Modern in London
Seems they bought it jointly with the Israel Museum and Centre Pompidou, "Presentations at the three museums will be coordinated so that the work is only ever on view at one venue at any one time" but I can't find any more info, on the tate website anyway.

I also have only seen a little over four hours, but I thought it was great - a very unique experience. I definitely hope to see more someday.

Did another two hours, 11:30a-1:30p, at MoMA last week. Glad they went easy on the High Noon clips. The Walken monologue from Pulp Fiction was clearly never before heard by some of the MoMAgoers.

Krakow, you probably know there was a screening of The Clock at the CCA in Glasgow a few years ago. I caught the first couple of hours - so next time it comes round I will do 2pm-4pm, to keep up with the plot.
The Clock is great, but seeing Video Quartet for the first time (at the Barbican's Marclay exhibition) remains my most sheerly exhilarating experience with his stuff.
