Ergonomic Keyboards c/d

I got one for FREE outside an electronics place and after a couple of days I really liked it. Also it's BIG and makes me feel a bit like I'm Sulu or Han Solo, and it has lots of room for stickers/writing and so on. Does it qualify as late 90s kitsch? Is that even when these things came out? But yeah, does anyone else use one, etc.

As far as stickers go it so far has one of a dog and a stickerphoto from the Auckland FAP on it. Btw. Damian Andrew and Petra VS Ess Ned and Elisabeth.

those ones that are split in half and at angles suck big time ass. i suppose i might get used to it, but whenever i'm confronted with one, i'm reduced to hunting and pecking :-(

Yeah that's the one! It is kind of stupid, but I still like it. My old kbd looks DULL and TRAD now. I've always been a hunter/pecker though, I'm just reasonably fast.

RSI suffererer alert: The microsoft ergo keyboard with the arrow keys in the inverted T shape is the best keyboard ever (I've never tried one of the ones that looks like it has two holes scooped out with the keys curving around the inner edges, though).

Unfortunately, MS makes two kinds of ergo keyboards: one with the arrow keys in a cross shape (it's an alright keyboard, just your generic split-in-half ergo kind) and basically the same keyboard with the inverted-T arrow keys, which they charge $30 more for (I just had to buy a new one on Wednesday b/c my old one gave out after the 5th or so cup of coffee landed on it). So- grrr to MS for charging more for the T configuration. (Or grrrrrr to me for spilling my coffee so often.)

MS should just stick to making nice hardware- their silver & red lights optical intellimice are good, too.

thats the mouse i just bought. i like it pretty well. i had always preferred a 3rd button but am getting used to the wheel

ron (ron), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 02:01 (twenty-three years ago)

I loved my wheel, but the mouse died. Too bad. My kbd has the T-shaped arrows, so I guess it's pretty good! Cool!

I forgot the reason why MS mice are so good: they work left handed! My mouse at work drives me up the wall, the shape is all wrong for my hand.

we should all be using chord keyboards! if everyone used one, we could send little morse-code-type messages just by HOLDING HANDS!! we must make this happen!!

I like them. They make you hold your hands in a more natural shape. They also force you to type better because you can't cross your fingers over in the middle as easily.

Oldskool Mac ergo keyboards were teh r0x0r, i tell you. They were adjustable so you didn't have to type all stupid and right angle-y. and they had nice detatchable/adjustable wrist-rests which were great cause i have inordinately long fingers and hands.

Also, keyboards w t-shaped arrow keys are klassik for bad spacies sims. Does anyone know where one wld get a 680x0 version of 'Maelstrom' these days?

petra jane (petra jane), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 07:51 (twenty-three years ago)

i've read that wristrests are BAD because they encourage RSI - by resting your hand on something you trap nerves and stuff. or something.

DV (dirtyvicar), Tuesday, 24 September 2002 07:54 (twenty-three years ago)

yeah i had an argt w. our office manager abt wrist rests: you shd type w. yr whole body, like paderewski

eleven years pass...

My right wrist/arm are hurting and I think it's because I hover my hand over my laptop scroll pad when I'm reading/scrolling down. I do more reading than typing. I need a mouse, perhaps a vertical one, but I'm not sure how to choose between them without the chance to test-drive them for an extended period of time.
