I still can't get over how Patti fell of the stage after she proclaimed "Jesus died but not for my sins.".

nathalie, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

JC seems okay, the peace and love stuff, I agree with that.

jel, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

the peace'n'luv I could do without, the Jesus I like said things like "I come not to bring peace, but a sword", and "Whosoever does not hate their own family can never follow me", etc

dave q, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yes, the basic thrust of Jesus's teachings is "I really don't think any of you fuckers realise quite how difficult it is to get to heaven. You're all going to burn."

Nick, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Thats the Calvinist slant. I took the Hollywood angle.

jel, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I dig the peace and love. 'Do unto others as you would have done to you' is a wonderful maxim. It's just that you can't get away from all the incredibly difficult specific demands he makes elsewhere in the gospels. You've got to tell your family to get lost, you can't be rich (unless you've figured out this camel/eye conundrum), you can't make any pension provisions (cause the sparrows are OK), you can't even *think* adulturous thoughts cause that's tantamount to infidelity. I don't know - it's TOO HARD.

Nick, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You can do all that bad stuff - robbing, killing, maiming - and still get into heaven. For that, CLASSIC.

Frank Nitti, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Dude, he saw water and said, "That's shit, we need booze" and turned it into wine and hung out with whores. He's obviously our type of guy. It's just a shame about the religion itself.

Ally, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Christ was expressed by writers trying to prove a point not himself.

anthony, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Anthony, I think you'll find that the Bible is the WORD OF GOD.

Nick, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

It maybe but the editing is a hackjob.

anthony, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

God is a crackhead. I mean, pff, the Bible is like way better when God is all angry and shit and does wicked shit like turning people into salt because they just look at something. He had kids and went all to crap, which is like totally typical of everyone, they get all soft when they have kids.

Therefore, kids = awful.

Ally, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

> he had kids

Kids? Have I only been told part of the story?

Nick, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You knew what I meant.

Ally, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jesus was just a hippie. He probably used patchoulie when he went for a night on the town.

nathalie (nathalie), Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah, but he was a hippy with a mean streak. Kind of like Charles Manson.

Nick, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Apostles: Beach Boys?

nathalie (nathalie), Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jesus did not kill anyone. AS well he was way to ACTIVE to be a hippie.

anthony, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

But look at Ben and Jerry!

Jesus to me is the Son of God, who died for our sins. He was a gentle person much like a teacher. There are missing years in his life and I have a theory about that. I believe that he made his way to Tibet and stayed with the Monks for a few years and taught them how to live with little to nothing(humbley) Jesus was kind to everyone he met, even prostitutes. God himself worked miracles through his son. Although he was human, he was also perfect. I believe something else too. It isn't written in the Bible, either for or against, I believe he had children. He left his home at about the age of thirteen, and nothing else was recorded until the age of thirty three. Just my opinion. Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

gale, what do you think about the merovingian bloodline?

ethan, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well, if you explain what it is I'll let you know what i think about it. Gale

Gale Deslongchamps, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jesus would have been a hippie if he had a band like Phish to follow aroddn till he was in his late 30s, otherwise his love of physical situations whould have run amok with physical consideratons but he was still a neat charcter.

Mr Noodles, Saturday, 27 October 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Do you mean the bloodline from Jesus to this day and age? If so I do think we will see him in our time here on earth. I really hope so! Then the world will be fit to live in harmony instead of wars, and there will be no more hunger. If you take a good look at the world today, and you read your Bible, you will see that what was written long ago, is coming now. Nobody is prepared. Many are turning from God and I feel Although I don't go to Church on a regular basis,it in no way breaks my faith. You see God is with all of us and he's always around when we need him. Tell me what you think now. Gale

Ah, I liked Ally's comments the best. Fact is, Christ was the 4th revelation of God from God to man. Many errors crept into the recorded history concerning Christ. This revelation corrects the misconceptions. = http://www.urantia.com

Guys I just saw this yesterday. There are billboards all over Atlanta proclaiming that Jesus is coming back on May 21, 2011. Pretty f-ing hilarious.

Jesus has been remade in so many likenesses and with so many personalities and philosophies, that I have come to the Revelation that He was made of Silly Putty.

I favor early renditions:

ca. 320 CE.

Some day we'll get a film based on historical Jesus studies by some Euro director. Its reasonable that Yeshua bin Yosef was a anti-Roman patriot with Macabbean apocalyptic tendencies and morality learned from Pharisees of the Hillel school. Its also reasonable that he adopted common practice in grooming from the still predominant Hellenistic culture of post-Alexander Palestine.

Beware the radical metrosexual agenda (Sanpaku), Friday, 24 December 2010 02:04 (fifteen years ago)

The main problem with looking at what was lying around as common material to work with at the time and fashioning an amalgam of those materials into "Jesus", is that such a person would not have been very remarkable, which in turn makes it an explanation that doesn't explain much.

Gospel of John is super interesting because it wants to have its cake & eat it to on the q of Jesus the man vs. Jesus the mystical appearance of God in the world

so into Jesus these days I almost wish we had an "I Love Jesus" board tbh

I just like the point "Jesus literally died praying" as a response to xians' claims that prayer will change things. (i'm a xian myself and find it a good object lesson.) but when i linked it here it only displayed the response... anyway this was an estela RT
