Jeselnik's Caligula airs this weekend on Comedy Central.
Y'all will have to tell me how it was, because I hate that dude too much to watch it.
― Johnny Fever, Thursday, 10 January 2013 06:19 (twelve years ago)
You would extra hate it, JF. The whole set is built around rape jokes. It's like Patrick Bateman's standup.
I really admire his craft but I wish he had a second or third joke type. All his stuff is very samey.
― pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 06:37 (twelve years ago)
Saw Jeselnik last year and he announced how many rape jokes would be in the set at the beginning. They were well-spaced out.
― ( ͡° ͜ʖ͡°) (sic), Tuesday, 15 January 2013 09:21 (twelve years ago)
I don;t think I've ever heard one. Except for Sarah Silverman's bit about them..

i caught like 10 minutes of the Jeselnik show and it was alright but he comes off as such a terrible host. that dead-eyed, lifeless staredown brand of comedy doesn't really translate into a hosting gig. its like Comedy Central crafted him out of cold steel in a bid to grab more Tosh/Jeff Ross/Carlos Mencia type personalities
― frogbs, Monday, 25 February 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)
yeah, he's actively repulsive
― gentle german fatherly voice (President Keyes), Monday, 25 February 2013 14:52 (twelve years ago)
jeselnik is so much funnier than tosh.0
― Mordy, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 03:01 (twelve years ago)
jeselnik's show is better than his standup because for some strange reason he comes off more natural reading a script off a prompter than when he's just out there with a mic delivering jokes as slowly as humanly possible
― some dude, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 03:05 (twelve years ago)

Nathan for You is okay.
Nick Kroll is a pimple on tv's ass.
― Johnny Fever, Monday, 29 April 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)
Kroll Show was chockful of lols, and oddly formally audacious for a sketch programme, in that the accretion of more and more scripted reality show parodies paid off best for those who kept watching for eight weeks, rather than frontloading better sketches into the early episodes.
It was interesting to note that despite it looking flash and well-set-dressed, the budget obviously didn’t allow for very much scheduling of other comedians (aside from Jon Daly and Jenny Slate): Chelsea Peretti only appearing on Skype, Andy Daly being on greenscreen with no other actors, Mulaney only playing George St Geegland and all but two of his appearances clearly being shot in one afternoon – worth watching to see if the insta-renewal may mean that Comedy Central will give them more money and time for the second series, enabling more non-Kroll characters.

well said, kroll show did get better as it went on
― johnny crunch, Tuesday, 30 April 2013 01:28 (twelve years ago)
Caught five shows last week in the Sydney Comedy Festival (prob only getting to a couple this week, but will squeeze in more in the final week). Best were:
Daniel Kitson at the shaggiest mid-point of a month of work-in-progress shows, which meant he was sitting at a table with a panoply of 5 or 10-minute chunks, worked up in Melbourne, that would have the theatre erupting and gasping, before he would get lost and flip through an A4 notebook going “um fhfhfhfhfh did I forget to say that bit? Was this meant to go first?” or writing down something he’d freestyled and liked. With pauses, riffing at the start, and occasional audience chiding it went an hour and 3/4, so value for money;
and Greg Fleet, with a show called The Boy Who Cried Sober, about how nearly every night he’d performed his hugely successful post-heroin confessional show Ten Years In A Long Sleeved Shirt in 1996 and 1997 he’d actually been on smack, and hilarious tales of how addiction generally fucked up his life and career in the subsequent 15 years, and how he could only do this show now that he’s finally gotten off heroin, delivered while plainly pinned.
Sorry to get off-topic here on the Rolling Stand-Up Comedy Thread 2013 thread obv

new question: where is the best place to listen to these archives? I found one but it only goes back to 2007 ---I found a full archive but they don't seem to work. :(
― set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 30 April 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)
hm. The show only ran in 2006 and 2007, before getting axed by Triple M for - no joke - being more popular than anything else on the station. There's a fan website with full episode recordings, but the podcast is great because it's Tone painstakingly editing 2 or 3 "best-of" albums a week out of the 5-10 hours. It used to be all up on iTunes - is it not now? - but that was essentially bootlegged by a fan after Triple M took down the archives, as Tony doesn't know how to do iTunes himself.
(If you can't find it somewhere I can send you a thumb drive or something with everything. Plus subsequent years' TM stints/appearances on podcasts and community radio and /\B< evening shows.) (Fleet was a semi-regular, in the vein of something like Paul Hester on Martin/Molloy.)

The Itunes location's a bust, doesn't work anymore :( But I found a youtube location for the podcasts that I was listening to today, very funny stuff! I'll check out that fan website, that might be the ticket. Thanks Sic!!
