The Departed will win but he's terrific in We Owe The Night, Three Kings, Huckabees, Fear and is by far the best thing in The Fighter.

never had any watch the other guys and underrate wahlberg in it jon! he is amazing in that movie.

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:17 (twelve years ago)

he's even fuckin great in the big hit, which to my discomfort i enjoyed again only a month ago

let's bitch about our stupid, annoying co-ilxors (darraghmac), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:17 (twelve years ago)

Voted The Yards, because I think that character is sort of the Wahlberg blue-collar hunk ideal.

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

(but I like him a lot in Boogie Nights and the David O. Russell movies too.)

something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:23 (twelve years ago)

he's a total non-entity in most of these that i've seen tbh, don't really understand the enthusiasm

trey songza (some dude), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:24 (twelve years ago)

Voted Huckabees.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 11 January 2013 03:24 (twelve years ago)

this is true, i think i just mean The Other Guys is underrated by people i know. i'm always quoting the peacock line and people are like, "wtf is that from" and i tell them how hilarious The Other Guys is and they just say, "oh, i thought it was another shitty Will Ferrell movie".

HAPPY BDAY TOOTS (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Friday, 11 January 2013 03:25 (twelve years ago)

but it might be anybody's favourite, my teachers used to say 'you can't have favourites' and bosses say they don't play favourites but thing about favourites is there they are, not really deserving it but getting it.

At 16, Wahlberg approached a middle-aged Vietnamese man on the street and, using a large wooden stick, knocked him unconscious (while calling him "Vietnam fucking shit"). He also attacked another Vietnamese man, leaving him permanently blind in one eye.[11][12]

Rick Schroeder: Sass.

Russell Clark: The French have a word for it - sassé! [ laughs ] Christian, tell me, please how do you explain your sassiness?

Christian Slater: Well, I always say life is like Mr. Toad's Wild Ride - we're all just hanging on and someday it's gonna crash.

Russell Clark: Somebody say "sassy"? Now, Marky, your brother Donny Wahlburg produces all your albums, so settle a question for us: between you and your brother, who would you say is the more "sassy"?

Marky Mark: Yeah, that is large, man, he's on my jock, buggin' with the three nipples.. Check this out! [ drops his pants and starts dancing ] Come on! Come on!

Rick Schroeder: It was okay.

Christian Slater: Ah, that was you in "Silver Spoons"? Hey, quite a performance, I found it riveting!

Rick Schroeder: Hey, I'm not that kid any more! That was Rick-y!

Russell Clark: I feel like I'm in a sassy sandwich!

Rick Schroeder: Who are you talking to, man, come on.

Russell Clark: No one. Never mind.

Marky Mark: Yo, come on, check this out! [ drops his pants and dances ] Come on! Come on! Come on!

Russell Clark: Let's put it to a vote. Audience?

Audience: Sassy!

Russell Clark: [ chuckles ] Well, we're almost out of time. I'd like to thank Rick, Mark and Christian for joining me today, and come back soon.

Rick Schroeder: Oh, thanks for having us..

Christian Slater: We must do this again sometime..

Marky Mark: Yeah, damn!

Russell Clark: If they're not sassy, I don't know what is. Good night!

"Buggin' with the three nipples" was one of our favorite high school catch phrases.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 11 January 2013 13:55 (twelve years ago)

i hope someday he sits down for a real biography or ghost-written memoir someday. I mean this guy was a coked-out hate criminal in his teens before becoming a beefcake house rapper, with his brother's boy-band going from the top of the world to the bottom in between. fifteen years after his pop peak, he's got an oscar nomination. a roman catholic with four kids from the same woman, only three were born out of wedlock. now he and the boy-bander are planning a hamburger chain in the old neighborhood called Wahlburgers. wtf.

it's almost pretty decent, there are some sweet action scenes and nice atmosphere (really like the setting of the final frozen lake facedown) but then there's wahlberg having a chat w/his dead mom thrown in there. josh charles gets owned, which was p satisfying.

Boogie Nights was an unlikely movie for me to enjoy, but I did watch it and far from finding it boring, I rather enjoyed it. I even enjoyed Burt Reynolds in this and Burt's particular talents were rarely talents that I enjoyed.
