i like both but this is bob's burgers so easily.

Mordy, Monday, 14 January 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

I love both, but Bob's Burgers has a lot of heart and that puts it over the top for me.

Solange and thanks for all the fish (Nicole), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:30 (twelve years ago)

maybe i need to watch more archer but at the moment, bob's burgers 4 sure

just sayin, Monday, 14 January 2013 16:35 (twelve years ago)

I think Archer's complete and total lack of heart is a strong, strong positive

DJP, Monday, 14 January 2013 16:36 (twelve years ago)

Yes. What Archer did with the cancer storyline was nothing short of amazing.

Both these shows are so, so great. Might have to go with Archer just because shows where all the characters hate each other are often a lot more interesting.

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

Yeah I have to go with Archer. It just has everything I need in comedy. But I haven't watched a tonne of Bobs Burgers. I find it funny though.

obliquity of the ecliptic (rrrobyn), Monday, 14 January 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

i'm leaning towards bob's burgers just for this:

and this:

though i can be persuaded to vote for archer.

I like BB, but Archer is just so damn funny. Esp. Pam and Cheryl, who kill it every episode.

Tarfumes The Escape Goat, Monday, 14 January 2013 18:26 (twelve years ago)

Bobs Burgers,

Tho I like how H Jon Benjamin now plays two extremely competent characters, as opposed to Ben or Coach Mcguirk

"It's the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Drunk!" (kingfish), Monday, 14 January 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

Archer's not "extremely competent"!

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

nor is bob really

Mordy, Monday, 14 January 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

Bob is a good chef, and Archer can do spy shit successfully(on occasion). Compared to Ben & Coach McGuirk, they're effing masters

"It's the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Drunk!" (kingfish), Monday, 14 January 2013 19:08 (twelve years ago)

yeah true

some dude, Monday, 14 January 2013 19:12 (twelve years ago)

coach mcguirk was super competent you're all crazy

"Iron" (Will M.), Monday, 14 January 2013 19:26 (twelve years ago)

"Iron" (Will M.), Monday, 14 January 2013 19:27 (twelve years ago)

i have not seen "bob's burgers". for that reason, i'm voting for "bob's burgers"

J0rdan S., Monday, 14 January 2013 19:27 (twelve years ago)

Archer easily.

Eh, I'm going Archer. I think it's funnier and just so amoral.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 15:11 (twelve years ago)

Also, fewer annoying sounds/poop jokes and punchlines, as funny as they can be.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 15 January 2013 15:11 (twelve years ago)

Both are good, but there is something so endearing about Bob's Burgers. I'm a super fan of Linda, she's a great character. Always makes me laugh.

thx to this thread i tried to watch home movies again and that fucking squigglevision animation makes me nauseous. i know they dropped it for the second season, but i dont want to miss out on the first season. maybe i will listen to it with the tv out of my vision.

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Wednesday, 16 January 2013 17:07 (twelve years ago)

it's not like there's some longterm story arc you'll miss out on if you skip to season 2. plus it got better over time.

What he said, unsurprisingly. Archer.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 22 January 2013 00:35 (twelve years ago)

I love both shows & may have actually loled at a more consistent rate w/ Archer than I did / Bob's Burgers, at least throughout their respective first two seasons. Third season of BB has been next-level, tho, imo - esp the ep w/ Tina driving and Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman, Insurance Claims Investigator.

I loved the crossover episode and love Archer in general, but still have to go with Bob's Burgers.

Ulna (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 13:15 (twelve years ago)

i think both of these showa are really, really bad, but Bob Berger is less bad

You would.

Manti and the Catfish (Trayce), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 13:41 (twelve years ago)

whiney srs question did you ever watch dr. katz or home movies

the legend of bigger yansh (some dude), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:10 (twelve years ago)

I enjoyed Dr Katz because it was basically stand-up routines. Home Movies was OK but wildly overrated

vagina the escape G.O.A.T. (Whiney G. Weingarten), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

fair enough

i can't tell if Nicole posted the screencap she posted on a "this is why Archer kinda sucks" tip but that's how it works for me

the legend of bigger yansh (some dude), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)

I don't think it sucks, but to me it is lazier.

Ulna (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

And note that I will never rag on Whiney's taste in television again because I had an urge to post stuff about how much Happy Endings sucks and gloat about its imminent cancellation in the Happy Endings thread, and I finally got where he was coming from on the Community thread.

Ulna (Nicole), Tuesday, 22 January 2013 15:56 (twelve years ago)

ha

VICTORY

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 00:03 (twelve years ago)

BB gets closer to the elusive early-simpsons vibe than any other animated sitcom -- it goes for sweetness and character, not wacky refs.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 00:25 (twelve years ago)

BB has its share of wacky refs though

big yansh theory (some dude), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 00:27 (twelve years ago)

If I wanted sweetness from my cartoon characters I'd watch Grey's Anatomy.

tsrobodo, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 09:10 (twelve years ago)

Voted Archer, the character work and literary refs put it over the top for me.

Simon H., Wednesday, 23 January 2013 09:28 (twelve years ago)

That's one aspect of "Archer" I really love, how almost every character is a certified moron and/or lunatic, yet still occasionally capable of cutting wit and references (and surviving assassinations). I suppose that's partly because they have ... writers.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

aside from the assassinations thing you just described like 90% of contemporary TV comedy

some dude, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 14:09 (twelve years ago)

I loved/hated this note from the AV Club recap of Archer's season premiere:

The burger on sale at Bob’s Burgers, the Thomas Elphinstone Hambledurger with Manning Coleslaw, is a reference to the popular British spy series starring Thomas Elphinstone Hambledon. The books were written by two authors, working together under the pseudonym Manning Coles. And now I’ve explained to you why it’s funny, which Archer didn’t get a chance to do.

BELCHER KIDS

Either way, these are the two best cartoons on TV (that I am aware of)

American Dad (the only McFarlane show worth watching) is slept on by a lot of people, but yeah.

I watch all of these (except the Green Lantern) with my kid, they're all very good.

Muttered this elsewhere but both Adventure Time and Regular Show are about to hit Netflix Instant. A fine thing.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 15:23 (twelve years ago)

AD is irredeemable

Doctor No Cassie (some dude), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 17:16 (twelve years ago)

There was a recent AD episode that had a scene I don't even want to explain, because you really had to see it, but basically Haley and Jeff (who was super-high) were out looking for Steve, just walking around in the street yelling his name. A guy leans out his window and says, "Yeah?" Jeff (who is, again, super-stoned) explains that they're looking for Steve, the guy replies, "My name is Steve," and Jeff looks at Haley and says, "Babe, I . . . I don't know what to do in this situation." I swear I laughed until I thought I would pee my pants.

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)

I guess you had to be there.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 17:20 (twelve years ago)

You really did.

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 17:22 (twelve years ago)

The same episode featured Charlie Day of "It's Always Sunnny . . ." as an accounting-obsessed meth dealer.

Gollum: "Hot, Ready and Smeagol!" (Phil D.), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 17:26 (twelve years ago)

The first season of AD was super awful. It became funnier and I became interested enough in the characters that I can now watch the first season without cringing but the show is much funnier now.

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 18:46 (twelve years ago)

yeah becoming interested in the gay alien and the colonel klink fish is what i'm afraid of tbh

Doctor No Cassie (some dude), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 18:53 (twelve years ago)

the first couple seasons of family guy aren't so bad, but all of macfarlane's other shows look so ugly and feel so unpleasant.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 18:58 (twelve years ago)

Literally all of his characters look terrible. The animation is so awful.

pun lovin criminal (polyphonic), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 19:00 (twelve years ago)

Klaus is a total afterthought/non-entity in AD aside from maybe one episode per season

Bel-Air the Fresh Prince, sitting in a chair (DJP), Wednesday, 23 January 2013 19:11 (twelve years ago)

I feel like the Cee-Lo hot tub episode jumped the shark in the best way possible and everything that followed has benefited as a result.

tsrobodo, Wednesday, 23 January 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

haha yeah, I agree with that
