Things that are so close to your tastes / ideals / sense of humour, that for some reason you don't like them?

I was going to start this on ILM but thought I'd open it to the ILE massive as well.

Does this happen to you? I think it happens to me an awful lot actually. Comedy that really ought to touch all my buttons but somehow falls flat (I had this with Spaced when it was popular). Music which, for all of its parts, should be like catnip to me but fails to move me in the slightest (Nick Cave, for example). Movies that ought to appeal to my entire being, but I just find irksome and embarrassing (nearly every Tim Burton film ever).

Is it rational? Why does this happen? Is it an uncanny valley or a curate's egg sort of thing?

Well, there's a bunch of "tell me something I don't know" when it's that close to your 'self'.

haha, admittedly a lot of these are stock examples I've used for years. I think I'm pretty made up on the reasons I dislike Tim Burton these days.
