if you fall down the stairs, they have to name the stairway after you.

frogbs, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:38 (twelve years ago)

is anybody here voting for "post-surgery complications"

:C (crüt), Friday, 15 February 2013 16:40 (twelve years ago)

anyway, alcohol is clearly the answer here

Asteroid all day long.

I want to combine them: walking & choking while on fire

fireworks AND asteroid impact

now that would be p great

yeah if the fireworks were an attempt to deflect the asteroid that'd be OK

only one of these that does not involve excessive pain or prolonged misery seems to be freezing, so I'll take that.

weird that drowning isn't here, maybe that's covered by "accidents"

sleeve, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)

xpost no I picture it more like you're working on setting up a massive fireworks display in the middle of a field and then an asteroid hits the EXACT spot where the fireworks are and PTCHAWW RREEEEEE BOOM PTCHOWWW

like a million explosions and a HUGE fireball like Die Hard + Deep Impact x Independence Day x 1000

I say yes to that

drowning = exposure to forces of nature? (going by the icon)

As long as I never come out of anesthesia, I was thinking post-surgery complications for this reason. Go in for lipo, never wake up.

none of these seem like the best way to go. where is the painless in your sleep option?

Mordy, Friday, 15 February 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)

maybe that's less likely than an asteroid impact...?

Welcome to my world of proses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 15 February 2013 17:02 (twelve years ago)

original Economist post doesn't say that this encompasses ALL the ways to die, just compares the likelihood of various scenarios

Welcome to my world of proses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 15 February 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)

BTW congrats to my late friend Matt, who beat 10.5 million-to-one odds in being killed by a lightning strike.

whoah. sorry man.

since it was a Shakey thread I thought "drone rocket" would be on the list :(

Exposure to excessive natural cold

why are these separate datapoints

xp at djp. gravely low.

schlump, Friday, 15 February 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

(Also, for those worrying about pain - intentional self-harm can cover a painless death, although it isn't always the case, obviously.)

emil.y, Friday, 15 February 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

why are these separate datapoints

yeah I didn't get that either

Welcome to my world of proses (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 15 February 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

storms, lightning and asteroids are all forces of nature too

silverfish, Friday, 15 February 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)

I like the concept of dying of *all* accidents and injuries - like you're some clumsy Clouseau-esque waiter or something

whaaaaa?
freezing to death sounds pretty horrible until the point where you feel nothing, which will take quite a while

Death by walking seems like it would have to involve some form of accident. Can you walk yourself to death?
