Skimmed the new answers and wondered why someone had bumped a thread about Richard Prior. Then went to The Guardian and realised my mistake.

It was always called Good Neighbors on Minnesota public television. And with Butterflies and Reginald Perrin it was my fucking JAM in my mid teens. Au revoir dude.

try a little crowleymass (Jon Lewis), Monday, 18 February 2013 15:33 (twelve years ago)

Was that because of the USA series "The Good Life" with Larry Hagman?

Because we had it here, before the RBriers series, and nobody got confused. So, yay ua!

Mark G, Monday, 18 February 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

That must have been the reason.

So yeah, when a couple years later mtv started showing The Young Ones and I saw their 'Good Life' bit, I thought they were just making up a parody name for the show, I had no idea at the time that was its proper title.

Lovely that he was the lead story on the main ITV evening news, despite being pretty much a mainstay of the BBC.

That's nice to hear. He was one of the great sitcom actors for sure.
