No, but if you say "Thanks be to God", it does.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Thursday, 26 September 2002 14:26 (twenty-three years ago)

yes it does, damn you to hell for praying!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 26 September 2002 14:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes. Why aren't you in church?

Mr Swygart (mrswygart), Thursday, 26 September 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

but it all depends on how you define God surely?

I sorta see God as the sum total of all unknowables, so I am admitting my small insignificance by thanking God.

yes

Maria (Maria), Thursday, 26 September 2002 18:53 (twenty-three years ago)

No, when it is used as an interjection phrase in your cultures dialect, meaning: "that's great"

same as 'fuck' doesn't always mean sexual intercourse when it is used as an interjection.

Yes, when it is taken literally, or not used as an interjection (but usually this would be made into a longer sentance like "Thanks be to God." "Thank you God." "I Thank God." )

A Nairn (moretap), Thursday, 26 September 2002 18:58 (twenty-three years ago)

but people usually don't think interjections, do they?
I guess they can.

I always say "Sweet mary, mother of christ, save us all" but I am an atheist.

I interject "jesus" every so often even though I was brought up Jewish and am now an Agnostic. I guess it is just something everybody picks up without thinking about.

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Friday, 27 September 2002 04:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I think you know if it does. It's probably something that crosses my mind or even my lips from time to time, but I am entirely atheist. It's a learnt habit, I think.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 September 2002 17:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I always want to pray for people when they are having a bad time and I can't help them, but I'm an atheist so it doesn't work that way. it is very frustrating.

Maria (Maria), Friday, 27 September 2002 17:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Actually I think God might be annoyed at the idea that you could "accidentally" pray.
