how's life, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

what is it with ilx polls and false dichotomies

ledge, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

what's the false dichotomy

how's life, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:51 (twelve years ago)

regularly/never. PICK ONE.

ledge, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:53 (twelve years ago)

I am on facebook and ignore it regularly

acid in the style of tenpole tudor (NickB), Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

ok, that's more of an oversight than creating a "false dichotomy".

how's life, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:55 (twelve years ago)

i check my facebook every day for messages but i don't spend time clicking around on there unless i'm real bored

ciderpress, Thursday, 7 March 2013 15:57 (twelve years ago)

yeah I check my messages and scroll down the newsfeed for like 3 seconds but I have pretty much stopped caring about 'my social network' and I would not be willing to pay $10 a month for this service

iatee, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:00 (twelve years ago)

Its cheaper than actually meeting ppl

i don't have to be fair, i'm *right* (darraghmac), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)

There def needs to be another option inbetween 'use it regularly' and 'never use it'. Cos i use it these days maybe once or twice a week, for a total of like 5 mins, just checking messages scrolling through a dozen or so news feeds. And that's way different than signing on every day, multiple times a day, commenting on stuff, actually browsing the site.

I really hate how you are kind of obligated to do FB if you are for instance in a band or have some kind of business/art thing, you have to check in and repost and create images and make events and invite people, etc. I want to play in a band, not run an effing fan club.

Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:10 (twelve years ago)

when i was single i was there a lot.
after i met my partner ( on facebook!) i go there only once a day/2 days, just to check messages, usually from a friend who prefer the facebook platform upon regular e-mails.

i was never really interested on the "social network" aspect of it, actually.

nostormo, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:11 (twelve years ago)

so i guess "other option"?

nostormo, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

"other option", specifically: I'm on Facebook, use it frequently but very lightly (partly for professional purposes) and resent it because it's such an awful, awful, awful fucking mess of a thing.

Yeah, I'm not going to lock the poll and start fresh or anything. I'll just assume that people who want to vote something like that will vote "other option" and voice their opinion in a post. My bad.

how's life, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

I'm disappointed—I thought this was gonna be a super-detailed breakdown, with options like "Rarely add content, but check timeline and 'like' posts several times per day" or "Add new photo albums more than once a week")

"facebook participation level" is a great concept tho and I would like to subscribe to your newsletter

fiscal cliff racer (bernard snowy), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

sorry for the shitty poll.

how's life, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:25 (twelve years ago)

you can assume that the "average" answers would be "used to use it very regularly, now i use it less".

in the future it might be "facebook? who use that anyway?"

nostormo, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:28 (twelve years ago)

also, don't take it too hard lol

nostormo, Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:29 (twelve years ago)

factors that seem relevant:

— frequency (& spatial distribution?) of facebook-checking
— frequency (& intensity?) of 'primary activity' (updating status, uploading photos or videos, creating events, making changes to profile)
— frequency (& intensity?) of 'secondary activity' (liking or commenting on the 'primary activity' of others, posting on a friend's or event's wall ['changes to profile' should maybe go here too? idk])
— size & variability of a user's friend network

fiscal cliff racer (bernard snowy), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

only use it for events (promoting shows, reminding myself what's happening this weekend)

queeple qua queeple (Jordan), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:31 (twelve years ago)

ya I was trying to think of some way to consider the 'facebook-only' vs. 'correlates w/ real-world' axis but......it's complicated

fiscal cliff racer (bernard snowy), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:32 (twelve years ago)

maybe a level below 'primary activity' consisting of friendships & social gatherings whose existence precedes Facebook & would survive its disappearance

fiscal cliff racer (bernard snowy), Thursday, 7 March 2013 16:34 (twelve years ago)

I have a daily or thereabouts scroll through my news feed to see if there's anything interesting, click a couple of likes, block a couple of arseholes and post the occasional Snopes link in response to some stupid shared conspiracy shite. Probably takes up an hour a week.

five years pass...

Does anyone know an easy way to delete all of my past comments to other people's threads and/or all publicly visible content without literally deleting everything I've ever posted?
