Neil S, Thursday, 21 March 2013 15:33 (twelve years ago)

pplains, Thursday, 21 March 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

Queer Drive, I mean.

pplains, Thursday, 21 March 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

message of psychedelic interest: can you spot the monster penis?

Sébastien, Thursday, 21 March 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

is that forsaken one for real?

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 March 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

i remember even aged 12 or so finding ocarina of time's "will you save the girl or play like one?" ad p offensive.

of these i think davis cup world tour's sexism may win/lose for being either completely decontextualised OR horrendously rapey.

Merdeyeux, Thursday, 21 March 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)

interlude seems to have suited its utter creepiness appropriately to the product being sold

O_o-O_O-o_O (jjjusten), Thursday, 21 March 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

seem to remember joystick adverts did their own line of creepy sexist ads back in the day as well, obv too scared to GIS for them though

Neil S, Thursday, 21 March 2013 16:15 (twelve years ago)

gotta be INTERLUDE

goole, Thursday, 21 March 2013 16:18 (twelve years ago)

what the fuck is that, even. the ad copy is amazing.

goole, Thursday, 21 March 2013 16:19 (twelve years ago)

the forsaken copy isn't real, but the imagery is. i worked on this game. other territories got cover/ad images more relevant to the game (descent-like fps). the sweaty-chick-with-tattoo pictures is what the US marketing team wanted.

Trivia

Comic

Forsaken was featured as a comic book series published by Acclaim Comics shortly after its release. First in a Turok/Forsaken special edition (written by Fabian Nicieza and Evan Skolnick, and inked by Mat Broome and Sean Parsons) in which Turok gets lost in the alternate future of Forsaken. And then in a 4-issue limited series (written by Shon Bury and with art by Joe St. Pierre) which delineates the story of the main character presented in the Turok special (yup, the Forsaken babe), who turns out to be an artificial lifeform/living weapon, who gets possessed by what appears to be a human spirit.
Descent

The Forsaken design team were admitted Descent addicts as is evident in the gameplay, and verified in some magazine interviews.
Extras

The original Forsaken release includes a 12-month calendar featuring shots of the Forsaken cover-girl.
German version

The gore effects when killing human enemies were removed in the German Nintendo 64 version.
Technology

Forsaken's attitude to speed optimizing is tied very closely to the accelerator card's capabilities. Detail and complexity are continuously adjusted during the game based on what the card can accomplish; as a result, the framerate achieved while playing is extremely good, and can achieve 60fps or higher on even an original second-generation 3D accelerator (3Dfx Voodoo, for example) on only a Pentium 90.
Title

The original name for Forsaken was Condemned. The name was changed because it had already been taken. However, there is still a reference to the original name in the opening movie.
