Well I prefer mango chutney, especially the spiced type.

spicy mango chutney is very good, but the complex thrill of lime pickle just goes with so much stuff

I have no idea what lime pickle is

is it a lime-flavored pickle?

Heyman (crüt), Saturday, 30 March 2013 21:58 (thirteen years ago)

The Lime Pickle is a traditional Indian restaurant favourite, and the juicy combination of limes with authentic spices means it is the perfect compliment to your favourite curry. Also delicious on a sandwich, or with cold meats - our Patak's Lime Pickle is a truly authentic family recipe that we keep closely guarded!

it's a sour, mildly spicy paste with chunks of pickled lime in it

I've tried other lime pickles and always found them too salty. Patak's is my favourite. Their brinjal pickle is also a favourite of mine. Love it on a chicken sandwich.

yes, and some of them are too sweet!

Why has it been so long since I had any lime pickle?

ljubljana, Sunday, 31 March 2013 19:13 (thirteen years ago)

on toast with peanut butter and mashed banana

This straddles great and disgusting like almost nothing I have eaten before.

Des Fusils Pour Banter (ShariVari), Monday, 1 April 2013 10:48 (thirteen years ago)

it's amazing tho, splash of tabasco on the banana if you're that way inclined, winter flavour bombs in yr mouth

I just toasted some bread and put chunky peanut butter and tomato pickle on it after reading this thread and holy fuck. total revelation to me. tried some dried banana on it, too, which was good but a little unnecessary, really I got enough sweetness from the peanut butter

good call Noodle Vague this is an A+ snack

not feeling those lighters (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Monday, 1 April 2013 15:59 (thirteen years ago)

it's my own spin on something i had at a hikers' cafe one time. can see the banana not working so well with tomato pickle, the sourness of lime pickle balances it out better

parcheesi Wotsits (Noodle Vague), Monday, 1 April 2013 16:04 (thirteen years ago)

definitely got to be crunchy peanut butter tho yeah

parcheesi Wotsits (Noodle Vague), Monday, 1 April 2013 16:05 (thirteen years ago)

What fresh Hel is this? (doo dah), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 13:16 (thirteen years ago)

I'm about to try the lime pickle/peanut butter/banana combination. I really hope this isn't some food-based prank, because it's going to be my lunch.

trishyb, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

Oh hey -- I just had lime pickle for the first time a couple weeks ago, courtesy a Pakistani friend. Had never even heard of it before, but it was delicious.

jaymc, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 14:23 (thirteen years ago)

oh man i can't take the pressure of being responsible for lunch

life went on, sadly (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 10 April 2013 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

need a report on lunch STAT

Neil S, Wednesday, 10 April 2013 15:38 (thirteen years ago)

Verdict: pretty good, but I think two sweet ingredients plus the pickle might be unnecessary. Might try it next time with either banana or peanut butter, not both. STAND DOWN EVERYONE.
