Anybody catch it last night? I thought it was great. No laugh track = a big bonus. I loved the funeral rehearsal. And Pauline and Ross! I was shocked and stunned.

Why oh why has Comedy Central stopped showing League of Gentlemeng and is instead showing the horrid Trigger Happy Television???

I blame Dang Perry.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 27 September 2002 12:50 (twenty-three years ago)

The lack of a laughter track completely threw me off actually.

Graham (graham), Friday, 27 September 2002 12:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Ha I saw LoG on comedy central when I was in the states and they blurred out his naughty bits when he was dressed as a nude woman! It made it even funnier.

Pauline and Ross was revolting. Really, really grim.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:13 (twenty-three years ago)

In a good way?

Sam (chirombo), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Dang Perry = the villain in 'Phoenix Nights'?

Andrew L (Andrew L), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Pauline and ross did give us all an image we'd like to forget. i really liked the absence of a laughter track.

also, very good thing that they concentrate on 3 or 4 characters per episode (i watched the second one on BBC choice BTW) rather than being a sketch show. if they had carried on, they would have run out of laughs.

I still maintain that the one millionth customer at the porn shop fanfare is one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television. The Alice Cooper interview sucked as quite harshly, however.

I want to see reruns of the Upright Citizen's Brigade. Amy Poehler = NON-STOP HILARITY (see also recent SNL episodes; every skit with her in it is hilarious).

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:37 (twenty-three years ago)

Is Papa Lazarou in the 2nd one?

Dave (chirombo), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:41 (twenty-three years ago)

the whole thing left me feeling dirty and i'm not sure whether that was dirty in a good way. the jury's out until the next episode, wait and see what the new characters are like. if we have a new papa lazarou then we're in business.

Dang Perry = the villain in 'Phoenix Nights'?

Alas no. The villian is Deng Perry who learnt all he knew at the feet of his Uncle Xiaoping.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:50 (twenty-three years ago)

''Is Papa Lazarou in the 2nd one?''

no he isn't. and pauline only appears in the last scene of the 2nd episode.

but again, it was really funny, i can't tell anymore, i don't want to spoil it.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 September 2002 13:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Pauline and Ross grim in a bad way. It fair put me off my dinner.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:31 (twenty-three years ago)

What do we think of LoG generally then? I think it's JAYNIUS.

Sam (chirombo), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:52 (twenty-three years ago)

First series = grebtness incarnate. Second series, less good, but with classic moments eg Papa Lazarou.

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

''First series = grebtness incarnate. Second series, less good, but with classic moments eg Papa Lazarou.''

I agree. third series (so far): they recognized this and changed.

the Xmas was grebt too!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

i thought the first episode was really straining for novelty a bit, but the second episode on BBC CHOICE is much *much* better. i won't give anything away, but the ending really surprised me in a good way - i think they're trying for some narrative complexity this time round rather than go for the grand guignol that swamped the second series. the single character per episode (with two or three subplots) works much better as well - i maintain that although everything they have done is genius, the christmas special is their one true claim to ABSOLUTE genius. *easily* on the level of the amicus and horror portmanteau horror films they were paying tribute to

if it continues like the second episode it may turn out to be the greatest series yet...

''if it continues like the second episode it may turn out to be the greatest series yet...''

yeah i agree.
