If someone introduced themselves to you as 'Perri 6' would you immediately think 'wanker'...

...or would you congratulate them on their interesting choice of moniker?

Changing your name to something unusual: classic or dud?

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:18 (twenty-three years ago)

I would be blind, because my eyes would have rolled so violently that they would be irreversibly harmed.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:20 (twenty-three years ago)

Was reading Dave Gorman's book where some people change their name to Dave Gorman. Had they done it at the start, it would have been v. unusual, but by the end, it is a passe name.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

Nicole, you want go in on a seeing-eye dog together (says the man who spent 7 years online calling himself "deX!")?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:22 (twenty-three years ago)

It took me a long time to stop calling you Dex.

Nicole (Nicole), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:30 (twenty-three years ago)

And now you call me Dang. :-)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Yes yes yes. (I have noted this 'character' before). I mean, by all means abandon your conventional name to the winds of post-modern identity flux, but to 'Perri 6'? (My supervisor has a friend who likes to be known as 'T', as in "That's just 'T'." How rubbish. How are people supposed to shorten your name when they tell an off colour story about you on a message board?)

Ellie (Ellie), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:42 (twenty-three years ago)

changing yr name = classic
perri 6 = clone!

the actual mr. jones (actual), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:44 (twenty-three years ago)

Clone of what though? Surely not Dr Who assistant of times past?

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:48 (twenty-three years ago)

Perri = Peri with twice the ____(noun)____.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

And now you call me Dang. :-)

Rolls off the tongue better. *waits patiently*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 September 2002 14:51 (twenty-three years ago)

I propose we start calling Ned Vibbum.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:02 (twenty-three years ago)

Vibbum 2000 would be better

RickyT (RickyT), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:03 (twenty-three years ago)

I used to work with a "T". Well, actually a "Te" or "Ti", but it sounds the same. His full name was "Tiernan".

I have met people who call themselves "Frog" "Mouse" "Flip" "Gel" and "The Weasel". This would be perfectly normal, except for a strange circumstance:- I was born in an NHS hospital, not created by Jim Henson

Sofa King Alternative (Sofa King Alternative), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

I'd immediately think 'wonker'.

Dave B (daveb), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Vibbum 2000 would be better

It's futuristic of the past.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

my new name is Leonard Part 6.

jess (dubplatestyle), Friday, 27 September 2002 15:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Original question: think 'Tosser' and try not to sneer too obviously. But clearly some people think differently. Also, I remember a conversation with my sister-in-law about personalised number plates where I said that I always think the same when I see them, and she said "Yeah - rich bastard! But I want to be a rich bastard and have one myself!". I said, "No, I always think 'tosser'"

And Six is a perfectly good French surname: anyone remember who Didier Six was, because I don't but I'm sure he existed?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 27 September 2002 19:40 (twenty-three years ago)

who is No. 1 ????

brg30 (brg30), Friday, 27 September 2002 20:32 (twenty-three years ago)

Defender in the 1982 French World Cup side? Or were you just being sarcastic?

Mark C (Mark C), Friday, 27 September 2002 21:39 (twenty-three years ago)

No, I had forgotten, Mark. I thought it was something very like that.

This fella wasn't by any chance afraid of flying or overtly fond of milk, was he? Did he wear a lot of gold chains?

Daniel_Rf, Friday, 27 September 2002 23:15 (twenty-three years ago)

My new name is Anal Witness 6.
