In 1999, Andy Cole had a brief foray into the music business with a catchy cover of ‘Outstanding’. The video features table football, shiny cars and nightclubs. What’s not to like?

"Fascism gave the us trains running on time, natty uniforms and strong authority figures at a time of national crisis. What's not to like?"

^maybe not relevant but given crap celebrities' fondness for hideous rhetorical question cliches as book titles I'm genuinely surprised clarkson or someone hasn't written one called "what's not to like?"

steve coogan says this in 'the look of love,' even tho he's playing a middle-aged man in 70s england, and it sounds really stupid

If you use this phrase, you are a cretin.

iirc "what's not to like" is a yiddishism that probably crept into US phraseology through the entertainment industry.

Aimless, Friday, 26 April 2013 17:44 (twelve years ago)

it seems aptly used in the entertainment industry since big movies seem to be just "this cool thing + that cool thing + that other cool thing = something of worth", e.g. "it's got both aliens and zombies, what's not to like?"

clouds, Friday, 26 April 2013 17:49 (twelve years ago)

"What's not to like?" what's not to like?

It's real ad speak. I also hate "think" used as an imperative to sell you something.

anti-semites hate this one weird phrase

i like this phrase i use it sometimes. instead of "classic or dud" threads i think you guys (i'm too new to say "we", i think) should do "what's not to like?" threads and then people can talk about all the things they don't like.
