only familiar with borowitz and it's just dreadful, really disheartening that he's being paid what i assume is a decent wage to put out the vanilla garbage he is

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Saturday, 4 May 2013 23:43 (twelve years ago)

its regional tragedy that the new yorker chose to associate themselves w that fool

lag∞n, Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:49 (twelve years ago)

the daily currant is really weird, they dont realize there's supposed to be jokes in there

lag∞n, Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:50 (twelve years ago)

borowitz based on sheer popularity alone

J0rdan S., Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:51 (twelve years ago)

Borowitz is simply a tidy and sanitized version of The Onion, which is okay for people who like that kind of thing. The Daily Currant is just completely inept at whatever it's trying to be.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:53 (twelve years ago)

but isn't that exactly what makes borowitz "worse"

J0rdan S., Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:54 (twelve years ago)

I dunno, I kind of have a grudging respect for things that do what they do well even if I don't like them. The Daily Currant doesn't do anything well.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 5 May 2013 00:56 (twelve years ago)

borowitz is the definition of a hack - i wouldn't equate success with doing something well

lag∞n, Sunday, 5 May 2013 11:22 (twelve years ago)

Daily Currant gets mistakenly forwarded as real news by retirees on my fb feed. Borowitz gets mistakenly pasted as real news on ilx. Think I hate Borowitz more.

how's life, Sunday, 5 May 2013 11:28 (twelve years ago)

this is the most evenly matched poll I've seen on ilx

乒乓, Sunday, 5 May 2013 11:39 (twelve years ago)

the daily currant's twitter? social media arm? actually responds to people who call them out for being really shitty

乒乓, Sunday, 5 May 2013 11:40 (twelve years ago)

there is no tiebreaker here. i'm stuck

乒乓, Sunday, 5 May 2013 11:40 (twelve years ago)

borowitz essentially subsidizes a huge part of the nyers web operation, there is no upside to the daily currant

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Borowitz is "comedy" but just awful, turning us all into lex. DC seems to fundamentally misunderstand what a joke is and is really defensive about it to boot. Despite AB's maddeningly elevated platform this goes to DC.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 6 May 2013 06:07 (twelve years ago)

daily currant is just some idiot doing his thing, i have to see the new yorker proudly debase itself every time a borowitz report gets posted, there's no question

we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Monday, 6 May 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)

that is a compelling argument

goole, Monday, 6 May 2013 14:44 (twelve years ago)

I have never seen either of these

buzza, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:02 (twelve years ago)

I never could get past their ersazt monopoly man anyway.

how's life, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:04 (twelve years ago)

is the borowitz report really worse than years of unfunny shouts + murmurs tho?

Mordy, Monday, 6 May 2013 15:21 (twelve years ago)

shouts and murmurs is at least goofy. borowitz's main sin is his squareness

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Monday, 6 May 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

nyer has always published shitty humor, and i would guess without having seen any numbers that borowitz makes up 10-20 percent of nyer web traffic, and probably brings in extra readers that pay for the good stuff. daily currant just exists, there is no positive externality

max, Monday, 6 May 2013 16:34 (twelve years ago)

nyer also has a proud tradition of funny humour (sj perelman, early woody allen, some of the comics) that is being debased by their affiliation with the borman

Oh wow, if yer gonna use this as your metric... by god, the Borowitz one should win by a country mile, so deeply unfunny on so many levels. DC is pretty horrible too, though

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:12 (twelve years ago)

i remember being irl mad at alfred a few months ago for posting a borowitz piece on ilx

these numbers seem high based on nothing, is this terrible guy really that popular

lag∞n, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:26 (twelve years ago)

my feeling is that borowitz web traffic largely hinges on people linking to him thinking it's a real story

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:27 (twelve years ago)

check out the most popularlist and most emailed lists a couple times a day and youll notice that his stuff is always on them, more than any other writer or category except maybe amy davidson, plus hes got this immense email list that he sends all his stuff out to w/ hundreds of thousands of subscribers

max, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:29 (twelve years ago)

i think its 50/50 duped rubes and unfunny old liberals

max, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:29 (twelve years ago)

borowitz has got that long tail

乒乓, Tuesday, 7 May 2013 00:30 (twelve years ago)

ppl think garison keiller is funny too
