Who Up In This Bishop Plays Chess?

Haven't played since I was a nipper and even then never studied it at all, therefore could only beat the other kids on my block or in my neighborhood who didn't know anything either and made more mistakes than I did, who were numerous enough for a while, but once I faced somebody who knew something I couldn't understand why I would always lose. Nowadays there is a renewed interest in my household since one of my daughters joined the Chess Club so I have tried to learn a little bit. Currently interested to see how the Norwegian Chess that is currently running will turn out and what will happen at championship match in November.

Note that the Finnish word for the bishop is "lähetti", which means "messenger".

love it but rarely get the chance to play (have never really enjoyed playing over the internet or playing a computer)

BUT my daughter is starting to grasp the rules and is totally into it so now I am stoked

it helps that we have one of those ornate chinese sets, adds an element of play-acting for her (she is 5)

My daughter at first had this tiny little cutesy kid's set but it was hard to tell the pieces apart so I went down to Thompson Street and got the rollup board with the letters and numbers on the side and the big Staunton pieces, just like the chess coach had. A neighbor recommended the Maurice Ashley Teaches Chess app for learning and now we've also got Shredder running on an iPad.

haha I uh haven't done anything that complicated. I've just always kept the set out and around and let her level of interest guide things

Probably for the best. Keep it simple while you can.
