I guess it *was* alcohol, but I've had 2 drinks in the last ten weeks. (Returning to old ways shortly.)

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Friday, 10 May 2013 01:18 (twelve years ago)

voted 'only one?' tbh. i eat a lot of meat and i also drink a lot of alcohol. i partake in all the rest, but i don't think it's excessive or unhealthy. i use salt when i cook but i never add salt to food prepared at a restaurant (exception, fried eggs at the diner.)

i guess i'd just rather listen to canned heat? (ian), Friday, 10 May 2013 01:31 (twelve years ago)

bread should have been an option

ptsd.psd (electricsound), Friday, 10 May 2013 01:48 (twelve years ago)

That's where I was heading with the processed white flour option.

Pizza and booze basically covers all of these, right?

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 02:08 (twelve years ago)

this seems relevant given everytime i read wmc talking about southern food i think of the fat/salt/smoke/caloriessssss

I'm voting meat, though the real answer for me is "only one?" It would take a major health catastrophe for me to give up the steers and the pigs.

What makes a man start threads? (WilliamC), Friday, 10 May 2013 02:10 (twelve years ago)

also is yr answer to this question the one that is most appealing

there is no special cathexis with mini fried donuts (Nilmar Honorato da Silva), Friday, 10 May 2013 02:10 (twelve years ago)

i really do try to eat all meat in moderation but there are wildly divergent opinions on what moderation is

call all destroyer, Friday, 10 May 2013 02:12 (twelve years ago)

tend to think not eating a good intake of fruit/vegetables is more unhelpful than a moderate excess concentrated in any particular category, so long as that isn't a bottle of vodka or a lb of chocolate a day

Meat, today was a double BBQ day.

Moodles, Friday, 10 May 2013 04:47 (twelve years ago)

if carbs are bad, then carbs. have cut down on meat to "only" one meal a day. got a massive sweet tooth but i basically don't have desserts or sugary snacks any more. would eat all the rice pasta bread potatoes - crisps/chips especially, could polish off a whole tin of pringles given the chance.

Salt and flour, usually. I am reasonably healthy but love making bread, pizza, roti, etc and eat way more salt than i probably should.

voted portion control, though a lot is alcohol induced portion control - 4 shots of bourbon -> eating an entire pint of haagen dazs salted caramel gelato

All of these tbh plus the not eating enough fruit/veg thing, but I guess sugar is my archnemesis bcz I cannot seem to give up the mindless empty diabetes-inducing calories of a nice cold Coke

I've always had a sweet tooth but now I wd generally choose a salty, fatty starter over dessert - just can't seem to shake the idea that carbonated sugar-water will be refreshing and medicinal (a cure for all the brain-fogs of the day)

Camp Macaroni Style (snoball), Friday, 10 May 2013 10:14 (twelve years ago)

Lack of portion control. I feel always eat way less/way more than I am supposed to, I wish I was more constant.

Van Horn Street, Friday, 10 May 2013 10:17 (twelve years ago)

Sugar, definitely. Also 'other: snacking'

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 10 May 2013 10:18 (twelve years ago)

I tried quitting sugar recently. Lasted from November through mid April. The problem was that about a month after I cut out sugar, I got ravenous for white flour and my alcohol consumption increased immensely. It was pretty depressing, because I felt really great in that first month, but when those cravings hit, if was essentially over. I just had another problem to deal with. Eventually, I stopped drinking alcohol because we had a family health crisis and I couldn't get drink at night in case I had to drive to the hospital, so I was just like "fuck it. Pass the m&Ms."

^Which is a direct outgrowth of being a former emotional smoker, no doubt.

how's life, Friday, 10 May 2013 11:51 (twelve years ago)

I don't have much of a sweet tooth, but I do drink loads of coke, and I'm fairly sure the fatty savoury foods I eat have craploads of sugar in them too, despite not being 'sweet'. So I've still got sugar covered.

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 11:55 (twelve years ago)

I've been realizing lately that I'm an emotional eater too. Like, I eat out of boredom and stress and depression, even when my stomach its full.

when my health problems flare up i seek solace in food. i don't eat loads or whatever, i just tend to rely on food to provide an interesting experience if i can't go out or do other things as a result of health.

Coffee's not so bad for hydration, as it turns out caffeine isn't really a diuretic, and unsweetened black coffee has a relatively low osmolality of about 37 mOsm/kg, well below the isotonic range of 275-295 mOsm/kg.

Beer and wine, OTOH are pretty bad for hydration, at ~1000 mOsm/kg and ~2500 mOsm/kg respectively. As are soft drinks (Mountain Dew clocks in at 805 mOsm/kg).

voted processed/refined white flour but it needn't be processed/refined for me to eat six fucking tons of it in a sitting; it just needs to have some cheese next to it. "weed" also a key response here.
