A follow-up to this poll - Vanity Poll: which night of emil.y's film club was the best?

Once again, vote for your favourite film night - there are a fair few pairs in this round, and I'm leaving them together as a whole evening rather than splitting them up into individual films.

Took us a little longer to get to this point than 1-20, judging from there being two Nuclear Winterval nights in this list...

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 12:18 (twelve years ago)

emil.y you are very very cool

Moldy ★☆☆☆☆ (wins), Friday, 10 May 2013 12:31 (twelve years ago)

"I'LL SHART YOU DEAD!"

Camp Macaroni Style (snoball), Friday, 10 May 2013 12:31 (twelve years ago)

lot of apocalypse here!

Moldy ★☆☆☆☆ (wins), Friday, 10 May 2013 12:32 (twelve years ago)

Lots of obviously great ones. I've always liked Last Night, which seems to be awfully divisive for some reason.

Simon H., Friday, 10 May 2013 12:40 (twelve years ago)

I do like me some end-of-the-world scenarios. I'm surprised you say Last Night is divisive, I find it a rather unassuming but sweetly effective/affecting film.

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 12:44 (twelve years ago)

it's been on my to-watch list for ages, along with over half this list

Moldy ★☆☆☆☆ (wins), Friday, 10 May 2013 12:46 (twelve years ago)

Also, I think it might be the only film from the 1990s that we've watched at a film club.

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 12:55 (twelve years ago)

I have seen zero of these, I am a philistine.

scintilla (seandalai), Friday, 10 May 2013 12:57 (twelve years ago)

Though I don't think we've watched *anything* from the '40s or '50s, which is weird. I guess the people involved have a cross-genre consensus from the 60s-80s and then have a few new-ish things to catch up on.

xp watch Threads. Watch it now. Watch it ten times. Be depressed.

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 12:59 (twelve years ago)

i was v pleasantly surprised by 'lake mungo' so im voting that /vampyr

but of course threads, possession, the shout are all all-time classics

johnny crunch, Friday, 10 May 2013 13:06 (twelve years ago)

I'll take Jack Smith & Rosa von Praunheim

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Friday, 10 May 2013 13:24 (twelve years ago)

lots of favourites here - opera = argento's last great movie, impulse = shatner's greatest performances - but had to vote colour of pomegranates, which i first saw on a double bill w/ stalker at the kings cross scala.

still haven't seen, or even acquired, year of the sex olympics, which is the big gap in my kneale knowledge

Ward Fowler, Friday, 10 May 2013 14:03 (twelve years ago)

"shatner's greatest performance" is a remarkable phrase

(I don't know that one, tough to beat The Intruder or ST:TWOK i think)

ballin' from Maine to Mexico (Dr Morbius), Friday, 10 May 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)

he plays a giggling psychopath in tight flares morbs, ya gotta see it

Ward Fowler, Friday, 10 May 2013 14:11 (twelve years ago)

Sex Olympics is superb, Ward, you must get hold of it. Reality TV dystopia before reality TV was a thing.

I love Impulse to pieces, there are some great lines in there, and Shatner is perfect for it.

I think my favourite double bill has to be Colour of Pomegranates with ...Louse of Usher, just for the sheer ridiculousness of the juxtaposition.

emil.y, Friday, 10 May 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

So many to choose from. It's down to these four for me (haven't seen the 2nd half of that double bill).

#29: Possession (dir A Zulawski, 1981)
#30: Opera (dir D Argento, 1987)
#38: Street Trash (dir JM Muro, 1987)
#39: Flaming Creatures (dir J Smith, 1963) / City of Lost Souls (dir R von Praunheim, 1983)

Not Simone Choule (Eric H.), Friday, 10 May 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

Saw Last Night when it was new and remember really liking it, but it's hardly fresh in my memory. Saw When The Wind Blows on cable when I was a kid and was depressed for days after.

Public Brooding Closet (cryptosicko), Saturday, 11 May 2013 01:28 (twelve years ago)

balls, Saturday, 11 May 2013 01:48 (twelve years ago)
