i love that word, use it sooooooo much when my sieve-like mind refuses to come up with the appropriate word.." oh the thingy, you know "
it is so helpful, and no one seems to be confused by it so obviously it works to indicate whatever it is i am trying to get out.

I thought this thread was gonna be about Rob Crow's band.

other words like thingy = doo-hickey, whatchamacallit and thingamajig - possibly even doo-bobber if you come from the right place.

The people who always make fun of me taught me, "¡Chingada!" as a substitute thingy.

Leee (Leee), Sunday, 29 September 2002 05:00 (twenty-three years ago)

the word thingy reminds me of jason gunn.

di smith (lucylurex), Sunday, 29 September 2002 05:02 (twenty-three years ago)

"chingada" translates into something like "the one who gets fucked".

mike (ro)bott, Sunday, 29 September 2002 05:53 (twenty-three years ago)

I heard it was the original title for the John Carpenter remake.

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 30 September 2002 11:58 (twenty-three years ago)

Prenez parti: «truc» ou «machin»?

(Please post more foreign translations of "thingy". I am bored and it might be useful one day.)

Hey, Thingy are great! Song for Wesley Willis is one of my favourite songs. Shall we mutate this into a Rob Crow thread? My favourite Optiganally Yours song = HUGS because it mentions MEERKATS!

I bought a great Japanese remix cd of Optiganally Yours the other week, with a fantastic remix of Mr Wilson on it+++++

A riskily familiar way of addressing Ben Grimm.

Frankly how he let the Thing go so lightly I find baffling. Being that string and mad eof brinks at least allows you to be called Mr Thing. (What's whrong with Brickman?)

Pete (Pete), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:04 (twenty-three years ago)

He named himself the Thing, Pete. In a bitter tone, obv.

String? As in superstrings, I expect - I don't understand science.

What's wrong with Brickman is that it was a fairly crappy Batman parody by my old pal Lew Stringer (of whom Alan Moore once said "He loves British comics so much he had his head altered to look like the Mekon").
