Alas, I had to Learn to Draw with Jon Gnagy. My parents weren't cool enough for Ed Emberley.

Oh yeah! I checked out the video "Squiggles, Dots, and Lines" from the library as often as my parents would let me.This guy had a gentle, fun, egalitarian approach that is good for showing how drawing is just fun.

I could swear one of this guy's major characters was a little green tarantula with a beret? Maybe I am mixing that up with someone else – my main thing was finding cartoony "how 2 draw" books at the library and I am sure some memory wires are crossed somewhere.

See also my favorite childhood show SECRET CITY which showed you how to draw tubes and two-point perspective sci-fi cartoons:

at one point i had the "draw everything" book and the halloween one, too, but that was long ago. my moms still gots a bunch of books we (my brother & sister & i) made when we were kids. my sister's is the best, because she was very small and it is consequently all messed up.

books we made according to EE style tips and then bound is what i mean
I WORSHIPPED the E.E. Green book. Like, I drew the little alien dudes with the cannonballs at the end of the book for the majority of elementary school.

The Animal one is great. My illustrator wife has always sworn by it, and we've used it with our 4-year-old daughter.
