gilbert shelton/furry freak bros - C or D etc?

It's years since I've read these. I remember them as being pretty funny, 'though somewhat chauvanist. I also remember one particular strip - "the freak brothers come down" being probably more effective as anti drug propaganda than anything put out by any govt. I seem to recall that "fat freddy's cat" was utter rubbish, except for the one where he gets kidnapped by aliens. I might pick up some new copies as my old copies are long lost. Your thoughts please, dear posters?

PS, yeah, I know I already posted a question today, but I'll use the kyoto argument - this is amde up for by someone else not posting, or suchlike

TImeless classics - made me giggle years before I ever got mashed. You don't have to be of the hippy persuasion to find them a hoot. Shelton actually a funnybook traditionalist - Harvey Kurtzman called him the "true pro of the underground", meant as a compliment - who really knows how to structure a gag etc. All the FFB comics are classics, IMHO, but the full colour, three part 'Idiots Abroad' saga makes for particularly rich reading, and downplays all the old "Bummer, Fat Freddy got burnt again" riffs. Shelton enough of an old toker to severely ration his output - one new bk every two or three yrs - which really helps to keep things fresh.

The Fat Freddy's Cat one pagers I like - "Wait till he puts on his headphones" etc. - but find the longer 'satirical ones' a bit hard to stomach. Also Search: Shelton's 'Wonder Warthog' strips, some of the earliest and best superhero parodies...

Shameless self-promotion: for further reading, see my entry on The Freak Brothers in Aurum's 'Comic Book Guide', now available at a remainder shop near you...

Fat freddy: "hey Phineas, I can make the cat talk. Cat-who lead the people's republic of china?" (yanks cat's tail) Cat="Mao!!!!!!" Classic.

one year passes...
they are pretty funny. actually, they're great, well wise to the complete wasterness of the main characters.

Have also just put this on a cartoon strip cats thread - sorry if this is a gross breach of etiquette.
