Hi folks,
I have compiled a list of the Trimurthi in nature: that is a theme of one central element along with 2 opposing elements. I was interested in doing so after a personal spiritual experience. However the list has practically no religious element. It does have some links with yin yang. The link to the Excel file is below. You can preview through the link without downloading:
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwFkLKl-Yz6KQVdFRE5lMkpMTUE/edit?usp=sharing
I realize some of the categories are too simple but the scientific ones are more interesting. The opposing factors there may not be readily apparent but post in here and I'll explain. I am looking for those interested in helping me add and build the list over time if possible so your suggestions and ideas are welcome. Thanks....

What argument is there that red and blue are extremes in opposition, but green is neutral?

in the wavelengths of light, red is at a higher wavelength, blue is at a lower and green is more centered. There is some overlap though. XYZ is just based on the direction of the planes. I'll agree its somewhat weak though.....

Why not say Orange Violet Indigo then? If you're talking wavelengths then the ends of the visible spectrum would make better extremes. But then you wouldn't have a clear third color.

Excretion: Penis / Rectum / Urethra
if the female of a species expels urine through the urethra, then so does the male. it just so happens that in male mammals (and some other animals?), the urethra runs through the penis.
Sex3: Gay / Heterosexual / Lesbian
how can "lesbian" be opposed to "gay" if lesbians are gay? it would make a little more sense if you replaced "gay" with "gay man", but even then I don't see how gay men and gay women are at the opposite end of a continuum with straight people in the middle.
these, and a lot of the other entries on your list, are less "one central element with two opposing elements" and more "three items that belong to the same category, arranged in no particular order to fit into your theory".
― unregistered, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 18:46 (twelve years ago)
The opposite extreme of the rectum is really the mouth.
― polyphonic, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 18:47 (twelve years ago)
The wavelengths of light visible to the human eye cover a small part of the spectrum. The two ends of that limited scope are somewhat arbitrary. Other creatures see more of the spectrum than we do, others less. Plus, the wavelength spectrum continues past the points that any creature can detect using its unaided senses.
― Aimless, Tuesday, 28 May 2013 18:48 (twelve years ago)
They run on a spectrum of ass to mouth, if you will.

Folks, I picked Red, green, blue because I thought the human retinal cones matched those wavelengths more closely. I'm no scientist and I picked what I wrote based one day of thought and scanning wikipedia. If you think it is too inaccurate I can remove it. In fact, I already removed about half of the list to get rid of semantic opposites and stuff I wasn't sure about. For example Directions and Seasons are gone even though I think it valid and interesting that the category exists in a triad in that manner. That still leaves about 25 elements.
As for rectum, the category is Excretion so I don't think mouth would fit in there unless your mouth is throwing up or something. Anyway, rectum is a central category so it doesn't need an opposing element. Also, I chose Penis and Urethra because those are the names of frontal male/female excretory organs. No one calls the male excretory organ an urethra except maybe in medical situations with a medical problem. Anyway, I removed this too.
But thank you for all this input. When I posted this link on other forums I got mostly zero input.

i agree with jayaram, i think the list would be more interesting if there was more consistency in how you picked your extremes, otherwise a lot of your oppositions seem totally arbitrary
coming from a math point of view i can't agree w/ x-y-z as being two extremes and a neutral, makes no sense
― the late great, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 19:16 (twelve years ago)
Perhaps i shouldn't have picked neutral as the definition. Central would have been more apt.Even in the Trimurthi, which is what the list is based, Vishnu is central not neutral. Also, like I said, I've removed about 25 elements from the list where people might only see word opposites. Even in XYZ, Z is a more central plane than X and Y. If you folks are interested you can check out the new list.
― Satsujin, Thursday, 30 May 2013 06:13 (twelve years ago)
When I was picking 'central' for the list, my criteria was either elements from either opposite or no elements from either opposite. The latter criteria was how neutral cropped up.
― Satsujin, Thursday, 30 May 2013 06:15 (twelve years ago)
sorry "elements from either opposite" should be "elements from both opposites"

can you give us a brief timeline of your developing interest in 2 opposing elements, one central element triads?
when did it come to you? do you know the story of murakami spontaneously deciding he could write a novel after watching a child being run down and crushed by a cement truck?

Satsujin - there's a book you may be interested to see called 'The Two Hands of God: the myths of polarity' by Alan Watts which is a collection of essays around a central theme that explicit opposition (e.g. light/dark, good/evil) conceals implicit unity, with examples from Chinese, Indian, Egyptian, Iranian, and Christian sources.

What kind of reminded me of it was your mention of a spiritual experience. He felt motivated to put this book together - it's like an annotated/commented anthology- in the early 60s after his own spiritual experiences (partly of a psychedelic origin though) in the late 50s.
― obligatory kate winslet nipple shot (Bob Six), Thursday, 30 May 2013 07:30 (twelve years ago)
(Bob Six), found the book online and will give it a looksee. However, the preface seems to mention the Trinity a lot and the google reviews seem to be base it on the duality of Eastern religions which I have already looked into to some great extent. Like reading about Taoism and yin yang.
dylann, my spiritual experience was caused by recovery from my last psychosis. I have had 3 psychoses in my life, all based on hell but have only been conscious for the last one. That was my worst experience in life and I will say no more about it than I thought I was dead and in hell and being punished in a disgusting way. I slipped in a deep depression, lost self-esteem and confidence. Then, one day, maybe about a half-year ago, while I was recuperating in an Ayurvedic hospital, a voice began speaking in my head saying it was the voice of God. It told me that God had a dual nature in the world, two opposites but also complementary e.g. Death is necessary for life to continue. I couldn't get my head around the concept that two spirits had begun existing at once so adopted the concept that these two 'Gods' must have split off from a central one who just observes. The voice was always benign and helped me come out of my depression and left me with messages and values that helped me change my life. I realize I sound crazy for listening to voices but the experience felt very real at the time. I used to be an agnostic leaning towards atheism but am now an agnostic leaning towards theism.
