Financially Crippled Due to Epilepsy

I am just curious as to how many people on this forum have epilepsy and are financially dependent because of it. I realize many people with epilepsy have completely successful lives and jobs but it really hurt my chance at a normal job and life. I had it from childhood but it was completely controlled with medication and only became really aggravated while I while studying at the University of Toronto in Computer Science. I was unable to complete my degree and had to leave Canada. My memory was strongly affected and I remember almost nothing from this time.
I worked with my father for a while but even he stopped that since my seizure activity would increase while working. My seizures have completely stopped for a few months since I started Ayurveda treatment but that doesn't mean much since it stopped for 2 years before and I thought I was cured and decided to get married but then they started again and due to problems in the marriage had to get divorced after 3 years. Stress seems to be the trigger for my seizures.
I am currently 35 years old but completely dependent on my parents for residence and money.

:( the exquisite pathos of this thread on 0 answers, eh

one of my brothers has this and the other has had isolated seizures. the one who has it also has diabetes (type 1) and is currently in the second year of university. he's coping well but gets a lot of parental support, and peer support from friends, which I think is just as important

really sorry to hear of your struggles. do you not live in a country with disability benefits or at least free medication? come to Britain! seriously. epilepsy is far less of a deal where it's taken seriously

OH NO, SECONDS LEFT, SECONDS LEFT, AND THERE IT IS. REGRET. (imago), Thursday, 30 May 2013 11:12 (twelve years ago)

I wouldn't try moving to a new country again. Tried moving from UAE to Canada and thats where it all broke down. And no, UAE, where I am currently, does not have disability benefits or free medication. However, I do think my situation is improving and am planning a future where I spend the rest of my life doing volunteer work in India.

My 27-year old daughter has frequent seizures and is completely dependent, but this is due to a large number of serious medical conditions, not simply the result of her seizures, so she is not a good point of comparison.

The erratic and unpredictable nature of seizures makes them psychologically hard to cope with. I wish you all luck in finding the best path forward and hope your seizures stay "under control" (a phrase that generally expresses a wish more than a certainty).
