do you remember your online audio-video problems and frustrations before the existence of youtube?

i sort of remember the first video i saw in flash or whatever and thought gee , whenever i "luck out" on some "video blogger" website and i have the choice between formats i will go for that one: so quick and the visual quality is not too shabby.

this feels like admitting to punching puppies, but I remember spending long hours downloading Red Hot Chili Peppers videos from Kazaa on 56k dialup. It was a dark period of my young life.

i was not around when youtube started to get going , was out of band (how unacceptable) . "point" i wanted to make : at that time i for one had a failiure of imagination , for some reasons i couldn't dare to imagine a solution to my problems. not saying i could have made that thing, more humbly: i couldn't even see it coming.

So much Real player.

Not internet really, but I just remembered in 2001 a friend of mine gave me the entire Rurouni Kenshin anime series on a CD-R, taped off a TV in Japan, but with English subtitles. In many of them, the commercials were carefully excised, but there were a few that weren't.

I don't even remember what format the shows were in. But there were like, several dozen files of a complete TV show on this disc (maybe more than one disc?). That disc really soothed me during a period in my life where I couldn't bring myself to leave the house for about two weeks.

ah, RealPlayer. Was it permanently kinda broken or did my computer just suck?

my expression of audio-video malaise from 10 years ago:

do you have a digital video camera?

"if so, could you record *everything* with it?
then share the files on peer-to-peer networks like kazaa lite?
for us to retrieve the files, just name them with the starting tag lelhashtag ILE"

couple of years later a more elegant soluton blindsided and took care of all that... actually what year was it when you could say you can find pretty much everything you are looking for on youtube?
