Not on this board, you won't.

Let us now praise famous men,
and our fathers in their generations.
The Lord apportioned to them great glory,
his majesty from the beginning.
There were those who ruled in their kingdoms,
and were men renowned for their power,
giving counsel by their understanding,
and proclaiming prophecies;
leaders of the people in their deliberations
and in understanding of learning for the people,
wise in their words of instruction;
those who composed musical tunes,
and set forth verses in writing;
rich men furnished with resources,
living peaceably in their habitations --
all these were honored in their generations,
and were the glory of their times.
There are some of them who have left a name,
so that men declare their praise.
And there are some who have no memorial,
who have perished as though they had not lived;
they have become as though they had not been born,
and so have their children after them.

(From the apocryphal Stones album Ecclesiasticus on Main Street)

And there are some who are just mediocre, overpraised R&B jobsworth druggie fuckwits, as per the pictured a-iconic icon, who has not even authored the best song ever written entitled "Some Girls."

Obvious Kneejerk Response, Monday, 30 September 2002 10:25 (twenty-three years ago)

Racey????

Andrew L (Andrew L), Monday, 30 September 2002 10:26 (twenty-three years ago)

Nor the best song ever written entitled "Brown Sugar."

Obvious Kneejerk Response, Monday, 30 September 2002 10:27 (twenty-three years ago)

Ruth Brown?

He's one of my three or four all time favourite guitarists. He is astonishingly great on Sympathy For The Devil. He co-wrote lots of the great rock songs and was part of the greatest ever rock band. And he's taken enough drugs to kill an elephant.

I have nothing against the Stones for keeping going. It's been all rubbish for ages, obv, but we have reason to believe that they had a fondness for playing rock music, so if people are still willing to pay them good money to do so, and seem to have fun watching them, what reason is there for stopping? It would be easier to revere them if they had retired undefeated in about 1975, true.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 30 September 2002 17:20 (twenty-three years ago)

I will praise his doctors. They have earned their keep.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 30 September 2002 18:30 (twenty-three years ago)

Who's that old Slavic woman with the guitar?

C J (C J), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 06:12 (twenty-three years ago)

Not even the second greatest song ever written called "Brown Sugar" then (I'd forgotten about the Ruth Brown one).

"Forty Licks" - what they all should have had at prep school.
