I passed this a few years ago (23/24) when I had to take it for real but failed this time around (17/24).
There are a lot of problems with it, starting with the fact that you can't actually take the test until you've been in the UK for at least two years (for most people it's longer), yet they ask questions aimed at new arrivals (e.g. how to open a bank account, how to apply for jobs).
It's ridiculous that there are questions about schooling when not everyone has kids, or that there are completely irrelevant facts like 'how many people in the UK are under the age of 19' (1. Who cares, and 2. The data is based on 2001 figures and therefore outdated anyway).
I think the Home Office was supposed to introduce a new version of the test this year, not sure what happened to that... or if it'll be an improvement...

You have failed the practice citizenship test.

Yeah, I got 54% as well. I assume we're all a bit shaky on divorce law history and the like?
― ailsa, Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:27 (twelve years ago)
i assume if you need to take the test they go over this stuff in class
― The drone that was played caused panic and confusion (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:29 (twelve years ago)
They make you buy a book that tells you about Santa Claus and how trick-or-treating works.
― salsa shark, Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:35 (twelve years ago)
does it have the population stats and years of the divorce law and stuff?
― The drone that was played caused panic and confusion (Noodle Vague), Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:41 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, all the answers are in a book iirc. It's a language / memory test as much as anything else.
― О боже, какой мужчина (ShariVari), Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:41 (twelve years ago)
Iirc they are also planning to separately test that you can speak enough English to follow a degree course in the future.
― О боже, какой мужчина (ShariVari), Sunday, 23 June 2013 12:45 (twelve years ago)
iirc the divorce law stuff is incorporated into a section about women's rights (one of the Qs you can get on the test is something like 'in the UK it is legal to discriminate against someone based on their gender: true or false' -- no joke)

Some of the choices are ridiculously close to each other though, are there 19 million / 20 million people etc under 19 in the UK or whatever it was. Who gives a flying one? In fact, a test on British idiomatic expressions like "who gives a flying one" would be more useful for making immigrants fully rounded members of British society.

― Emperor Cos Dashit (Adam Bruneau), Sunday, 23 June 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)
96 per cent (mainly because it's multiple guess and I remembered some of the questions from the other practice one I took a few months back). Hate it when I miss a question. Off to take the USA test...

weird that this test didn't ask about how a bill becomes a law, or about yr national myths about the queen or whatever, battle of hastings, that kind of useful information for a citizen
