Sandra Bernhard - C/D?

Was listening to her being interviewed on CBC just now and was kinda surprised that there was no thread. I say "classic," of course; stumbling upon the film version of Without You I'm Nothing on cable late one night at 13 years old while trying to catch some soft core porn was a formative experience for me. Plus, also, The King of Comedy, Roseanne (*just* before it turned to crap), her Letterman appearances...

Haven't been paying attention to her lately so I don't know what the quality of her recent work is like. But yeah, she rules.

First saw her on Richard Pryor's brief NBC show, but didn't register until the Scorsese film, after which I went to her live shows repeatedly (incl the off-B'way run of Without You I'm Nothing). Driving Letterman off the set of his show with her fake pregnancy was a TV highlight.

The cabaret act was just OK last time I went, maybe 5 years ago, but at least she's over Madonna.

She did seem to get a bit misty-eyed just now when the interviewer played an old clip of her and Madonna goofing around on Letterman. Though, to be fair, she seemed far more wistful about how reality television has rendered such antics obsolete than she did about her lost friendship with Madonna.
