Emmanuel Goldstein

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:26 (twenty-three years ago)

It's just a problem with the AI. I'll get Andrew to kick the server, that should fix it.

Graham (graham), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:28 (twenty-three years ago)

Now now Ricky. No, everyone seems to be in an odd mood. Maybe me as well. Is it the new moon? Or maybe it's just that lots of people are missing.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:31 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm actually here, but pretending I'm not, because I should be writing a review. There's a lot of repetative one-joke threads knocking about at the moment.

Anna (Anna), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:35 (twenty-three years ago)

phrastic yadda yadda

mark s (mark s), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:37 (twenty-three years ago)

we've all been affected by the news about John Major.

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

What is the review Anna? We will write it for you.

N. (nickdastoor), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:42 (twenty-three years ago)

it was fun at the end of last week, and is back to the recent usual low level. mornings are usually snippy.

Alan (Alan), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:48 (twenty-three years ago)

ILM has been better recently but has run out of steam a bit the last few days. ILE I think has too many threads posted to it.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:55 (twenty-three years ago)

it's october

mark s (mark s), Monday, 30 September 2002 12:59 (twenty-three years ago)

New euphemism: "adjusting your cookies"

Sam (chirombo), Monday, 30 September 2002 13:02 (twenty-three years ago)

N is right. It's wank. I'm leaving.

the pinefox, Monday, 30 September 2002 13:26 (twenty-three years ago)

hooray!

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 30 September 2002 13:33 (twenty-three years ago)

But who can make it less wank by posting an interesting question?
Certainly not me.

Has there been an influx of new users recently - it takes a while to calm down after you first discover this place, the tendency is to go for the one-liners, to indulge in a feeding frenzy.

Don't the old-timers and Big Guns usually save all us minnows at times like this?

Ray M (rdmanston), Monday, 30 September 2002 14:17 (twenty-three years ago)

But some of us old-timers and interesting question posters (um...) are bladdy busy at work. I'd post a question but I haven't actually got the time to nurture it til it grows into a strong man killing thread.

Anyway, all my threads are about films.

ILE always gets like this Nick. And a gag is a gag is a gag.

Pete (Pete), Monday, 30 September 2002 14:21 (twenty-three years ago)

''Has there been an influx of new users recently - it takes a while to calm down after you first discover this place, the tendency is to go for the one-liners, to indulge in a feeding frenzy.''

not always. over on ILM george gosset started by writing essays virtually. now its not exactly one liners but he doesn't do it as much.

i think it's musch easier to do one liners as you go along as you get to *know* ppl and chat to them therefore more one liners.

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:05 (twenty-three years ago)

One thing that happens when people know and like other people online is that they don't take them up on disagreements they might take 'strangers' up on - usually the more emotive or charged sort of disagreements. Whereas they are happier to have more knockabout arguments about 'trivial' stuff I think - and also to run with a joke.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:07 (twenty-three years ago)

i think nick posted this thread at random, at any given time different people will either like or dislike ilx, dependant on wether the threads they are interested in are proving popular or not

gareth (gareth), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:10 (twenty-three years ago)

I prefer conkers.

alix (alix), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:24 (twenty-three years ago)

is that true?

Alan (Alan), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:53 (twenty-three years ago)

you can't blame me! I was hardly on ILE today! (sorry about the steve thread!)

I'm taking a break anyway, I'll still post, but offically I'm taking a break.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 30 September 2002 15:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Then we can blame you!

Graham (graham), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:03 (twenty-three years ago)

wha! cries ned style.

jel -- (jel), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

jel since aparently you are here now, did you got my email?

vic (vicc13), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:24 (twenty-three years ago)

i guess i'm one of the one-liners, but i must say in my defense that this is mostly because i'm not too confident when i write in english...
anyway, i enjoy reading your long essays when i have the time.

joan vich (joan vich), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:29 (twenty-three years ago)

vic: yes thanks! I've downloaded the song! It's cool (sorry, was gonna reply just now)

jel -- (jel), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:36 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah, but what of the regulars who only respond to other certain regulars? There can be no continunity if ILx is to survive!

bnw (bnw), Monday, 30 September 2002 16:37 (twenty-three years ago)

I was in bed all day, feverish and nasty stomached.

chris (chris), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:07 (twenty-three years ago)

as a newcomer i have posted quite a few threads and yes some have been nonsense mainly out of boredom, but apart from the seemingly endless perri jokes i dont think ile is so bad.
isnt it a matter of responding to those you find interesting and ignoring the ones you dont?
and if it seems soooooo bad put something out there yourself?

donna (donna), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:11 (twenty-three years ago)

It's the weather.

Or, as a result of spending too much virtual time together, the womenfolk of ILE's periods have synced and we're all horribly pre-menstural.

petra jane (petra jane), Monday, 30 September 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

It's the silly season; I should know, I've been feeling exceptionally silly the past week or so. Think it's due to stress, sorry for anyone I have annoyed.

Nicole (Nicole), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:53 (twenty-three years ago)

one line is all you need

boxcubed (boxcubed), Monday, 30 September 2002 23:56 (twenty-three years ago)

Silly is good, though. Allows for laughs. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

there have been shitloads of culturally/geographically specific threads, which are a real erection killer.

Queen G (Queeng), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 06:38 (twenty-three years ago)

:(

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 07:20 (twenty-three years ago)

it's ok gareth, you still give me erocktions, especially when you ask nicely

Queen G (Queeng), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:09 (twenty-three years ago)

ILE was good today.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:13 (twenty-three years ago)

that's because i was "working from home" as the strange phrase has it

also today it actually IS october!!

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:33 (twenty-three years ago)

yay for October! I wish it would get a bit colder though!

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:02 (twenty-three years ago)

what?! it will get colder, enjoy the sun while it lasts...

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:04 (twenty-three years ago)

haha julio speaks truer than he knows

Dawnie Lizard (mark s), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:52 (twenty-three years ago)

is there a word as nimble as "antipodean" for northern hemisphere types?

(& I'm surprised nobody connected the "such wank" with all the FAPFAPFAP threads etc)

Ess Kay (esskay), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 02:16 (twenty-three years ago)

ProPodean?
