feel free to mention which one you thought was the worst as well.

Hi i am your great fan suces (jjjusten), Thursday, 27 June 2013 20:46 (twelve years ago)

i seemed to like it way more than other people on the one horror thread i remember discussion of it on. "A" was my fav overall, just loved the concept and execution, but a lot of them were good. least fav is probably one of the corny meta ones done by an American director like "Q."

some dude, Thursday, 27 June 2013 20:46 (twelve years ago)

btw N for Gorey

DJP, Thursday, 27 June 2013 20:47 (twelve years ago)

i did a probably annoying to everyone else exhaustive review on the horror thread. As a whole, I think it's pretty great! nothing shitty (oh and theres some crap in there) has the chance to overstay it's welcome, and there's plenty of good to make up for it.

I've never seen this. Can I just vote for my favorite letter?

well you could, but we might all make fun of you if you pick certain letters. whats your favorite letter, i'll tell you if you want to make that choice.

A really sets the bar high. Will have to try & remember which ones were which. Agree that the meta ones are bollox, and the scifi one near the end

btw N for Gorey

This.

Troughton-masked Replicant (aldo), Friday, 28 June 2013 07:28 (twelve years ago)

Worst by a million miles was "M." Ti West (whose movies I have really liked) is a horrible dick for that.

Walter Galt, Friday, 28 June 2013 07:57 (twelve years ago)

O, by some margin.

Jedmond, Friday, 28 June 2013 11:15 (twelve years ago)

Last two posts OTM.

Inte Regina Lund eller nån, mitt namn är (ShariVari), Friday, 28 June 2013 11:31 (twelve years ago)

watched this last night (along with une femme est une femme).

the good: enjoyed a lot of them, but loved yoshihiro nishimura's z is for zetsumetsu best of all. also dug the freak-out part of w is for wtf? in contrast to the fairly tame and sensible opening act(s), the final stretch gets impressively fucked-up and surreal, what with those two and y is for youngbuck. appreciated that. and yeah, forzani and cattet's o is for orgasm another highlight. similar to everything else they've done, but a good deal better than their pre-amer shorts.

the bad: ti west sucks, and so does his chapter here. jake (no relation) west's s is for speed also irredeemably shitty. but xavier gens' x is for xxl was the only segment i really hated. fuck you forever for that ugly, nauseating bullshit, mr gens.

other high points: h is for hydro-electric diffusion, goofy, but lots of fun. r is for removed, quality head-fuck. t is for toilet, funniest segment by a long shot.

with reservations: d is for dogfight, but i was upset by what looked like IRL dog-punching. i expect (hope?) it was done humanely, but it bothered me. had similar feelings about p is for pressure. excellent film, great central character, but finally too unrelievedly grim and harrowing for me to really "enjoy".

gonna watch it again tonight.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Saturday, 29 June 2013 02:21 (twelve years ago)

oh yeah, a is for apocalypse was good, too, though i didn't like it quite so much as some here.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Saturday, 29 June 2013 02:26 (twelve years ago)

D is for dogfight is totally redeemed by the extra features - main actor is a dog trainer, and that is his dog, and watching how careful and amazing the dog choreography is is frankly amazing. So no worries it's prob the most "no animals harmed in the making of this film" moment ever.

Hi i am your great fan suces (jjjusten), Saturday, 29 June 2013 03:52 (twelve years ago)

^ good to know! cuz, yeah, it's otherwise excellent.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Saturday, 29 June 2013 10:58 (twelve years ago)

hey everyone, it's not too late to stream this and vote in this vital important poll that probably only i care about

Magna Sharta (jjjusten), Saturday, 6 July 2013 15:24 (twelve years ago)

y is for youngbuck has stuck with me the most so sleazy and economical. also, the colors.

slam dunk, Sunday, 7 July 2013 03:06 (twelve years ago)

I just saw this last weekend and I have to join in the dogpile on Ti West's segment, which is a stunningly halfassed piece of shit by even the lowest of standards. He's capable of better; did he just put off doing it until the day before it was due or something? "Pressure" was also way too much for me :(

The ones that really stood out for me were "Cycle," "Jidai-Geki," "Orgasm" and "Youngbuck." Voting for "Youngbuck" since it takes most of what I liked about Hobo With a Shotgun (the garish colors and synthpop closing credits; sadly, no Rutger Hauer) and strips out most of the outright sadism.

muus lääv? :D muus dut :( (Telephone thing), Sunday, 7 July 2013 04:06 (twelve years ago)

voted Youngbuck, F or the Ti West one (which was M I think?) def the worst

thot police (fadanuf4erybody), Sunday, 7 July 2013 04:39 (twelve years ago)

you guys memorized all of em letters

Sébastien, Sunday, 7 July 2013 04:42 (twelve years ago)

I think "L is for Libido," which I never want to see again, might have been the most interesting one. A neat little comment on horror fandom, obsessive news watching, and more. Really, really gross, though.

Walter Galt, Sunday, 7 July 2013 11:11 (twelve years ago)

contenderizer, you hated x for xxl?

I was so disappointed by the Ti West one, I love the Innkeepers and House of the Devil so much but this just sucked

tight in the runs (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 7 July 2013 14:25 (twelve years ago)

contenderizer, you hated x for xxl?

yeah, way too cruel & brutal for my taste. strong performance, though.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Sunday, 7 July 2013 15:54 (twelve years ago)

re other recent mentions:

agree that l is for libido was interesting and well made, but i didn't have strong feelings about it either way.

j is for jidai-geki was great, forgot to mention it in my summary. subject appropriate to length, very funny.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Sunday, 7 July 2013 15:58 (twelve years ago)

just switched my vote to y is for youngbuck

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Sunday, 7 July 2013 16:00 (twelve years ago)

L is the one that really brings home the aristocratsness of this film.

X is really upsetting and horrible but idk that's kinda the remit? I "liked" it anyway. I don't really watch horror anymore cause I've become a bit squeamish but I thought this film was cool & v imaginative on the whole. M was boring and stupid but I think ppl ate flattering it by being all OMG THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE

sjuttiosju_u (wins), Sunday, 7 July 2013 18:44 (twelve years ago)

it's unacceptably crap, i had no problem with the content.

Me and my pool noodle (contenderizer), Sunday, 7 July 2013 18:47 (twelve years ago)

Fair enough but a few ppl walked out after that and afterwards I overheard some guys who were guffawing at child rape &c going "that was not cool"

Whereas I'm like even as a "sick joke" (which fuck off obv) this fails on every level

sjuttiosju_u (wins), Sunday, 7 July 2013 18:54 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

I'm recently registered, but I've been following the post-2005 thread (and the horror poll, which was amazing. I voted "O." I wasn't aware of that segment's directors before. Once I caught on to what the "o" would stand for, I was really afraid that they were going to ruin it by making the "little death" metaphor literal at the end. Sticking to the concept made it pay off even more.

Y is a worthy winner imo -- it's certainly stuck in my brain. I almost voted for L. That one by far was the most uncomfortable to watch. I was actually relieved by the ending, because it was so cartoonish. I also liked N (funny and sweet!), P, and Z. Hated X, basically for reasons already mentioned by others. I barely even remembered M and was a tiny bit surprised to see so much dislike for it here.

Seanballat, Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:54 (twelve years ago)

welcome to the jungle

twerking for obvious reasons (contenderizer), Thursday, 11 July 2013 01:28 (twelve years ago)

if you dug O and haven't seen amer, you gotta make that your next move. one of the best horror(ish) movies of recent years, think it did very well in the poll.

twerking for obvious reasons (contenderizer), Thursday, 11 July 2013 01:53 (twelve years ago)

I barely even remembered M and was a tiny bit surprised to see so much dislike for it here.

I guess for me it comes down to the way that horror can be an interesting way for artists to work through some really horrific feelings - almost in the same vein as comics throwing out really sick jokes after a tragedy. But the miscarriage one was just so juvenile - you get the sense that Ti West doesn't know anyone who's been through that experience (much less been through it himself). It wasn't sophisticated enough to be provocative; it was just thick, gross, sad.

Walter Galt, Thursday, 11 July 2013 09:38 (twelve years ago)

Thanks for the welcome. I really want to check out Amer -- it seems to be a bit hard to find, though.

Walter Galt, that's a pretty convincing reason to dislike "M"! What I wrote before was probably too callous.
