Louis CK and The Wire will be awesome no matter how many douchebags fall in love with them.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:27 (twelve years ago)

Feel like Alison Brie (or Alison Brie GIFs) would be more appropriate for the list than Upton.

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:28 (twelve years ago)

this is a really good list

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:29 (twelve years ago)

i wear american apparel v-necks (not tri blend tho - organic)

乒乓, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:30 (twelve years ago)

i find it flattering to imagine my millenial peers as boat shoe-wearing dudes in raybans and jorts, reading infinite jest but i don't identify with any of the things on the list or they're not a part of my everyday life in any way.

dylannn, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:38 (twelve years ago)

feel like this list is more of a "things millenials getting degrees in computer science like"

Sufjan Grafton, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 05:44 (twelve years ago)

I would hate to live in a place where this would be a really good list.

i guess it goes without saying because y'know buzzfeed but it's funny to see an entire generation represented by its white collegiate members. like yeahhhh kid cudi and childish gambino are the most popular rappers among teens and twentysomethings in general, right.

xxxp tbf haven't "boomers" and "gen x" and "millenials" and etc etc etc basically ONLY ever really been a representation of an affluent, educated white middle class?

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 13:37 (twelve years ago)

it's true.

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 13:43 (twelve years ago)

again you guys are making the mistake of assuming that being a millennial has anything to do w/ age

if you are a 65 y/o poor Hispanic man but you watch nickelodeon reruns on youtube and you are wearing jorts and a bow tie, you are a millenial

iatee, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 13:44 (twelve years ago)

if you're a middle class 40something southeast asian guy
beatin off to redtube in your raybans
you're a millenial

dylannn, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 13:51 (twelve years ago)

we are the most inclusive generation in history.

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 13:56 (twelve years ago)

that article about "how to work with millenials" posted earlier was stupid and unfunny until #6. until then it was such a subtle satire of generational stereotypes that i didn't see the satire at all.

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 14:05 (twelve years ago)

life do-overs are the ultimate fanfiction

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:37 (twelve years ago)

life do-overs are an important part of sonic fanfiction

iatee, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:37 (twelve years ago)

I wonder if James Frey is into sonic the hedgehog

Philip Nunez, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)

the key thing is that if you are a millenial your favorite character is tails and if you are gen x you like knuckles

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)

only problem w/ life do-overs is that it contradicts yolo

iatee, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

Texting the letter 'k'

K? K what? the letter before L, the letter after J? Did you know that in "JK" K stands for Kidding? So your reply is "kidding"? Or K as potassium? So you need some Special K in breakfast? K, as in i can K/O you? Can i knock you out and feed you to hungry sharks? Sharks has K in it.

diamonddave85, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

that image was so unfunny that i felt the compulsion to type it out

diamonddave85, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:39 (twelve years ago)

I need the following list items explained (mansplained?) to me in further detail b4 i cast my vote
1. "Fantasy sports teams for sports they would never play" -- would never play as in would never play in the majors? or wouldn't play w/ friends?
2. "Going to EDM shows so they can quasi-ironically grind" -- i have no idea

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)

sonic fan fiction is popular among all age groups, even the last scragglers from the lost generation. it's not a generational thing. xp

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)

the 2nd is the only one that seems to have any pathos so i am tempted to vote for it

I've Seen rRootage (Will M.), Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:41 (twelve years ago)

I think people should have the right to read and write fanfic but anyone reading longform writing in 2013 is immediately suspect

iatee, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:42 (twelve years ago)

I think anyone who types the word fanfic should be put in jail.

i like game of thrones
i want to like david foster wallace
i want to play bioshock infinite

beer brewing sounds cool, but i quit drinking
sonic the hedgehog is fucking awesome

going with jorts. gen x battle flag.

Treeship, Wednesday, 3 July 2013 15:48 (twelve years ago)

actually everytime someone in the wire mentioned 'the game' they were talking about sonic

Especially if you are a millenial with computer eye strain related visual impairment

Treeship, Tuesday, 9 July 2013 16:18 (twelve years ago)

i thought millenials were sincere and generation x were sarcastic?

Here's my theory.

Generation X grew up in an essentially sincere culture and tried to distinguish themselves by being sarcastic and ironic. Millennials grew up in an essentially sarcastic/ironic culture and tried to distinguish themselves by being sincere.

However, Gen Xers underestimate how deeply sincere they themselves really are, and Millennials underestimate how deeply ironic they themselves really are.

Josefa, Tuesday, 9 July 2013 16:20 (twelve years ago)

xps i disagree, it is legible and readable just the way it is, award trophy to inphographic

you live your life on the floor (sleepingbag), Tuesday, 9 July 2013 16:20 (twelve years ago)

That makes sense Josefa. Although, David Foster Wallace was gen x (late bloomer technically) and he was very concerned with trying to live sincerely in an ironic culture.

Treeship, Tuesday, 9 July 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Sunday, 14 July 2013 00:01 (twelve years ago)

I can't even tell if I belong to Gen X or Y. I do like a few things on that list.

But if what Josefa says is true, there seems to be a power struggle between the minority that tried to distinguish themselves from whatever, call it, Culture A was and those who represented or promoted Culture A. So, Culture A could be Sincere Culture or Ironic Culture.

So, unfortunately, it sounds too meta for me. I don't think it is accurate to talk about how Culture A in Society A represented A-Qualities while its people were trying to have B-Qualities. If they were 'trying' that means they failed because Culture/Society A had A-Qualities, but if they succeeded in having B-Qualities, yet at the same time Culture/Society A had A-Qualities, then they were only a subculture/minority, and can hardly be seen as representative.

I'm not saying minorities can never be representative of a culture (I know it's happened in the past), but I don't think it would be accurate to say this occurred for English-speaking Gen X'ers or Y'ers.

c21m50nh3x460n, Sunday, 14 July 2013 16:04 (twelve years ago)

Oh, having said all that, I voted for David Foster Wallace, mainly because my friends and I started a reading group to discuss Infinite Jest. So out of of the few things on that list that I like/do, I feel I committed to that the most.

I text "k" sometimes, though, but holding that as representative, significant or even relevant to any culture seems really silly to me. I guess the fact it is included on the list makes the person who compiled it feeding into that predefined/prejudiced Millennial attitude people want to cast on the Millennial generation. It's like people are constructing the Myth of the Millennial People right in front of our eyes and fiction/prejudice distorts reality, so it confuses everyone until finally some of the shit sticks to the wall.

c21m50nh3x460n, Sunday, 14 July 2013 16:12 (twelve years ago)
