His advice was usually to be independent minded, to not take safe paths or follow ordinary routes, to write your own playbook

This kind of talk drives me crazy. "Know what? To hell with these McDonalds burgers. I'm going to start putting salsa in them. Side of pico. What's that? I'm fired? But I was BEEING MY OWN MAN.

Not knocking the guy, but my namesake building will have multiple restrooms.

you've just got to follow your heart. basically, if you follow your heart nothing can go wrong.

Treeship, Sunday, 14 July 2013 05:38 (twelve years ago)

I'm sure he was a complete monster to deal with, but I like him. Is it OK to like him? I'm generally 100% anti-asshole IRL, but Jobs gets me a little inspired and I'm embarrassed about it.

markers, Sunday, 14 July 2013 05:44 (twelve years ago)

Big part of it may be tied to him saying dropping acid changed his life. I like the ~mystic vibe~ he brought to the tech world. I connect with that. Like 2001 and John Whitney.

there are aspects of steve jobs' personality i relate to. mostly the wearing the same outfit everyday. sometimes i feel like that kind of consistency would give me an extraordinary peace of mind, but i am way too vain to do something like that, which would draw attention to myself.

Saw the movie Jobs yesterday. It's very incompetent. Like that Sylvia Plath biopic with gwyneth paltrow, this movie seemed to consciously avoid dealing with abything interesting about its subject. A real missed opportunity.

Also, people in Singapore seem to be fine with people talking through the entire movie. The theater was packed and nobody even confronted these obnoxious teenagers.

Treeship, Thursday, 15 August 2013 22:30 (twelve years ago)

Maybe it was just this specific audience that was so patient.

Treeship, Thursday, 15 August 2013 22:34 (twelve years ago)

the more I see the trailers for Jobs, the more it seems like the worst fucking movie ever made

OH MY GOD HE'S OOGLY (DJP), Thursday, 15 August 2013 22:35 (twelve years ago)

It's close. There was no directorial vision to this thing, it's a highly generic biopic about a guy overcoming obstacles to accomplish blah blah blah. Kutcher does a good impersonation of Steve Jobs' walk though.

Treeship, Thursday, 15 August 2013 22:38 (twelve years ago)

where to begin

markers, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:44 (twelve years ago)

the ipod scene at the beginning was . . . not good. probably the worst scene in the whole thing?

markers, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:45 (twelve years ago)

the thing about there being "no sex in the products" or whatever was a jobs saying, not an ive saying

i don't think markkula was actually pissed when he was kicked off the board or whatever

markers, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:46 (twelve years ago)

i somehow doubt that einstein posted was in jobs' house. it was part of the think different campaign though.

markers, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)

markers, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:49 (twelve years ago)

they show jobs doing the voiceover for the think different commercial at the end, and he did do that, but that version was never used irl. not that that's an inaccuracy tho

Seems a bit weird that they sent the first draft to Dan Kottke and Mike Markkula but didn't talk to Woz until the script was finalised and nothing was going to get changed.

Anyone know if Kottke ever got the stock options he mentions not getting in the Slashdot piece? Was he one of the people Woz gave some of his own options to?
