Cards on Table: Height and Weight

I'd have imagined that everyone here was skinny and weasely, but a whole lot of time seems to be spent discussing being overweight, out of shape, and/or lazy. So I thought I'd just, you know, make everyone uncomfortable by asking this.

In the interest of clarity: 2.54 cm = 1 inch, .4536 kg = 1 pound. I know not a thing about this crazy "stone" system.

In the interest of going first: 5'8" (172cm), 140 (63kg).

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You must be joking.

Tom, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ahahahhahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahhahahahahahahah

maura, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

how handy. i can just tell people from now on that i am "nitsuh- sized." no more "huh"s and "wha?"s when i speak of inches and pounds, meters and grams/stones; now i will be perfectly understood. thanks, nitsuh!

fred solinger, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, I see: you'll all go on at length about being so embarrassingly huge, but when it's time to put your money where your mouths are ... :)

I'm convinced you're all tiny little elfin sorts who are only pretending to have any sort of relationship with your bodies at all.

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Maura can skip anyway, 'cause I already know her.

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ARGH.

5'7", 170 lbs. Carried VERY WELL, I might add.

Dan Perry, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am like the king of the moon in The Adventures of Baron Munchausen, Nitsuh. The head part.

Josh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'8 (172cm), 130lbs (58.9kg)

Ally, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

w: 247 stones plus or minus a few pripkas
h: three ells and a span

mark s, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

6'1" 154 lb...What next, do we have to post our Body Mass Index rating? Mine is 20.349910302, but that stuff's all bollocks.

jel, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(aha! my minor bits of notoriety from northwestern pay off!)

maura, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am very glad to hear that the BMI stuff is all bollocks.

Tom, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yep, that's Maura: a legend of the Norris scene. :)

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yep, that's Maura: a legend of the Norris scene. :)

Right up there with Dave Knapick.

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I can honestly say I don't know how much I weigh. Thank fuck.

Madchen, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am exactly jel sized

Steven James, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

A hair under 6 feet, I think around 180 lbs these days. I tend to avoid scales. But like Dan, I hold it well, oh yes. ;-) Ask Ally and she can confirm I don't lie. Too much. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nitsuh and Maura - did you go to NU?? I, too, am an alum, although I gather I graduated well before you did.

Kerry, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sure did, Kerry. She was a cheerleader and I was the Rock.

I envy Maura because I'm pretty sure she's of the appropriate vintage to have seen Pavement play the lakefill and Small Factory play Norris.

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Kerry, when did you graduate from NU? You wouldn't happen to know a guy from the class of '93 named Jamie Kugler, would you?

Dan Perry, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

No, I graduated in '89. I think Pavement played about two or three years after I graduated, and I only found out about it later. I was so jealous.

Kerry, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Oh, and 5'7", about 140 lbs, give or take a few. I ain't no elf - brick shithouse is more like it, as my great-grandma used to say.

I have an elfy face, tho, right down to the pointy ears.

Kerry, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I don't understand why Nitsuh thinks that an elfin person would have no 'relation with their body'.

Like the Madchen, I don't know the answers, but whatever I weigh, it's weigh too much.

the pinefox, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Okay, okay: 5'4", just this side of 100 lbs. Um, the lesser side. This is because I have smaller bones than everything except the poussin in the weird piri piri poussin stew thing I just made and ate. This will not affect the above figure.

suzy, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pinefox: The idea was that you're all like me -- pecking away at your keyboards and talking about music and going around reading things and etc., and then one day noticing this skinny thing underneath your heads and going, "Whoah, I almost forgot -- I have a body!" I'll admit to spending roughly four years without ever giving much thought to the state of my body, just using it as transportation for my head and my hands.

Nitsuh, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm simultaneously shrinking and growing. Frightening!

Melissa W, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Right, an independently verified 5"5' (166cm); and 147 lb, though allegedly it's decreasing because I'm allegedly doing exercise.

Graham, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

height: approx. 1.85 oompa loompas weight: more gravel than stone

tha chzza, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'11" - 6' and 11 stone, possibly a shade under. I don't understand this crazy "lbs/kgs" system.

Ally C, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I wouldn't reveal the required information under torture. But I would if bribed.

DG, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'11", 140.

Kris, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I'm a Kris.

Sterling Clover, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

109 kg, 183 cm
Which means 6" 1 inch and 240 lbs
and a little over 17 stone.

anthony, Monday, 13 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

don't know in metric, don't know in imperial, don't know in avoirdupois, don't know in ells & spans or cubits or anything either. but, just slightly below average for male human my age in both height & weight. ordinary lookin. except not.

duane, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

You are *not* a Kris, Sterling. He doesn't wear glasses. ;-)

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

1,66 m and 61/63 kilos. I am a yo-yo. Up'n'down all the time. In weight. Not height. hah!

nathalie (nathalie), Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Yeah I do! Sometimes, anyway, like right now.

Kris, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Nitsuh: oh, dear - i'm afraid you're just showing off. I notice my body every day, and often wish I didn't have to.

the pinefox, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

192 cm. Have no idea how much I weigh, last time I looked it was something like 82 kg.

Omar, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

As I said in another thread it is not ladylike to discuss your weight in public. And I am sure that most of my weight is hair and breasts anyway.

Emma, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

FIve foot two and a half, 30 inch waist (on a good day) and bizarrely - as mentioned elsewhere - fifteen stone in weight. I have very, very heavy bones.

Pete, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Pete, you are never 15 stone. Your scales must be broken. Unless you are really a robot made from lead.

Richard Tunnicliffe, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Jesus Richard, the man's been brave enough to admit to heavy bone syndrome and all you can do is throw it back in his face!

Tom, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Says 5'10" on my passport & may even be true. I'm taller on stilts and shorter if seated. Today's weight (confirmed!) is 92kg ('bout 200 lbs). Prolly 88kg minus clothes.

AP, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'9 1/2", 130

Otis Wheeler, Tuesday, 14 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

How come all these boys weigh the same as me but are NOTICABLY MORE RANGY than I? I am upset and disturbed.

Ally, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Well like I said: 6'0'' (=1.82m) , 8st 9lb (=121lbs or 55kg)

This gives me a BMI of 16.5, which appears to not be an option on the chart I was looking at on the net.

Nick, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I think it makes you about the same as Geri Halliwell, Nick.

Emma, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Geri is 5'2'', so according my calculations she would have to weigh 6st 6lb (90lb) to have the same BMI. Is this conceivable?

Nick, Wednesday, 15 August 2001 00:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i set myself up for this.

jess, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

YES the many lbs of the HUMBLE MILLIPEDE (in my kingdom he will ROOL)

Sarah, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Isn't a stone = 12 lbs? (Or has that already been discussed?)

5'9"ish, 220 lbs-ish. And that weight figure (in conjunction w/ my waist line) is going DOWN, hells yeah.

David Raposa, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I thought it was 14 pounds to the stone? if it's 12, then that makes me feel a little better!

chris, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Fortunately there are still 14 lb to the stone otherwise someone weighing, say 126 lb would shoot up from 9 stone to 10.5 stone.

My weight is still a closely guarded state secret.

Emma, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I bet I've gone from 8 stone to 9 stone over christmas, judging by my pants not fitting, but the scale's broken so I don't rightly know. (I would like my pants to be less painful, but I would also like oreos. this is difficult.)

Maria, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

(let's make that since thanksgiving, as since christmas is an awfully short time.)

Maria, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sarah: Between your sock-bra idea and your "appendages" question here, I am very concerned about your health. You may want to see a doctor and make sure they're really meant to be shaped like that.

Nitsuh, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The truth about pounds and stones

jel, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I am still about 11 - 11.5 stones.

jel, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

should be 'bout:

six feet and two inches.

twelve and a half stones. [one stone equals fourteen pounds. cannot be bothered multiplying twelve and a half by fourteen but by the time I typed this I figured it was one hundred and seventy five. yeah.]

richard john gillanders, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

I doubt my height's changed but I am now down below 130lb (9 st 4lb) since I last posted - Should I be worried?

Graham, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

ok, so i've gone from 7.8 stone to 8.5 stone.

Maria, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

The stone system is so much more RELAXED than our US pounds, which twitch to a different number depending on shoe-wearing or whatnot. I haven't weighed myself on a long time, but from head to toe I am 5'11" tall. I think when you put me on a scale I'm between 135 and 140. When I see pictures of myself I gasp. In horror. I am a thin little stick-man with no shoulders. I'm not sure how my arms even attach.

Tracer Hand, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

i am stagnating at 5'3", and i'd like to welcome you to munchkin land.

my weight is a worry. i am 55kgs. i used to be 62kgs. i don't know why i have lost weight. maybe i have worms. do munchkins get worms?

di, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'10" and 154 lbs. I have gained weight in the past year for the first time in like 10 years. It could mean I am on the road to getting "pregnant" like one of my Uncles.

bnw, Tuesday, 15 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Tracer, you gasp when you see pictures of yourself because you haven't gotten used to looking like Kramer. You're a whole lot bigger than this Dastoor chap. You're bigger than me too, I'm a hair over 5'9" and I seem to be losing weight - an even 120 lbs last time I checked. But I wear so many sweaters (though not as many as Ramon) that I forget I'm skinny.

Otis Wheeler, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

5'7", 130 lbs. And fuck this metric system and stones shit!

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Discussion on the radio today regarding obesity. Apparently, if you are 3 stones over your recommended weight you are considered obese. This does not apply to me.

Jonnie, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

Sometimes right after I'm done lifting, I look like a pea head: little round head with mismatched body.

Ah, the Pinhead Look! Always makes me think of that movie Puppetmaster, with that Pinhead puppet (tiny head, hulking muscles) that would beat the shit outta his victims. Not saying that you're a pinhead, or look like one, or beat the shit outta people like Pinhead puppet, NS, but my imagination likes to wander. And yet another excuse to remain scrawny (besides being lazy).

Tadeusz Suchodolski, Wednesday, 16 January 2002 01:00 (twenty-four years ago)

eight years pass...

ugh. 1m72 (5'8") and 105 kg (16st7lb) - It's starting to get out of hand, i'm changing my ways. (Eating breakfast from now on instead of not, full meal at noon instead of in the evening, only fruit instead of crap (pizza, kebab, fries) in the evening, bought an exercise bike today - putting it together already wore me out) - posting this here to help motivate myself.

StanM, Monday, 4 October 2010 20:32 (fifteen years ago)

six months pass...

So apparently I am really sensitive about my height! I kinda had no idea, it was surprising.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:05 (fifteen years ago)

How tall are you?

ENBB, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:06 (fifteen years ago)

I'm 5'10! IT IS AVERAGE HEIGHT

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:09 (fifteen years ago)

Last night my wife was like, "but you're really short for a guy, right?" and I could not let it drop at all! Like, I actually ended up getting out of bed and going on wikipedia to confirm it? PREVIOUSLY UNDISCOVERED CHIPS ON SHOULDER.

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:12 (fifteen years ago)

ha i'm 5ft 10 but kinda sensitive cos nobody ever believes that. I was 5 ft 7 when i was 13 so tbh i'm gutted

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:14 (fifteen years ago)

Figured out that my roommate's scale was set to KILOGRAMS which was making no sense to me, I thought there was just a digit malfunctioning and it was telling me i weighed (1)75. Gratified to find the "lbs" switch and weigh in at 164.4.

It's like I just lost ten pounds!

OK Cupid heights are a filthy, filthy lie.

Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:20 (fifteen years ago)

(That graph came out really small but it's the graph showing how the listed heights on OKCupid is exactly the same shape as the real heights plus two inches - kinda surprised that 6'4 dudes still feel the need to lie TBH! I guess it's like a "you never have enough money" thing.)

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:22 (fifteen years ago)

ha i'm 5ft 10 but kinda sensitive cos nobody ever believes that.

This phenomenon is so weird though - like what causes it? It's gotta be more than posture - "size" maybe?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:29 (fifteen years ago)

Posture and relative scrawniness.

Back up the lesbian canoe (Laurel), Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:31 (fifteen years ago)

wait does my supposed scrawniness make me look taller or not because i am far from scrawny tbh

the salmon of procrastination (darraghmac), Sunday, 17 April 2011 13:35 (fifteen years ago)

I'm five seven o five eight but people often think I'm taller. Guy at the bike shop yesterday guessed me at 5'10" initially; we were the same height and he said he was five seven. Weird.

lol sickmouthy (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 17 April 2011 14:03 (fifteen years ago)

i'm five foot nine AND A HALF (v important) and didn't realise i was kind of sensitive about it until i did a little back to back action with my ale friends and it turned out i was the shortest. i'm told it doesn't seem that way, i'm clinging on to that sentiment.

I thought for years I was 5'9" but a recent incident with an actual empirical instrument of measurement has made me change my self-image. In reality I am only a little over 5'7". It hurts to admit this!

I thought of doing an extreme diet so I can become some freaky string bean person.
