Did anyone else see tonight's game? The *108 yards* touchdown was awesome, but not nearly as funny as the replay shot of the coach racing down the sidelines, turning bright red, screaming at McAlister.

mini article abt the touchdown: http://espn.go.com/nfl/news/2002/0930/1439465.html

I stopped watching right before it happened but HAHAHAHAHAHA

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 04:40 (twenty-two years ago)

tonight was the first time I watched football on TV in almost a decade (at a friend's house while eating cookies and pizza, and playing Scrabble)... yeah, and that 108 yard play just seemed too easy.

I think Cabbage means the pop quiz down the Embassy.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

19.45 Chesterfield v West Ham

I think I mean this one, especially as me and my mate the G have waited 11 years for our respective teams to play each other.

chris (chris), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:44 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend played basketball with Ray Lewis once in college.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:45 (twenty-two years ago)

Sympathies on losing your scoring-for-most-games-in-a-row record, Chris.

Americans: we call our games football because it centres on contact between the 'foot' and a round 'ball'. You should rename your rather silly game 'handoval', to avoid confusion.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:18 (twenty-two years ago)

i'd want to use some soap after using a handoval

boxcubed (boxcubed), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

i want to use some soap on hope sandoval

Aaron A., Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:36 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh James, that's exciting. I love the gothy Ravens. They are Poe's team! And Ray Lewis is a MURDERER bwahahahaha. He's not going to Disneyworld.

(you soccer people will stay out of our handovoid threads if you know what's good for you.)

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

D'oh, our football thread has been Soccered!

NOL (National Ovalball League) just doesn't sound as good as NFL, and it can't be NH(andovoid)L b/c that's hockey; so I think we'll stick w/ football. Every so often in a game there's some kicking of the ball- it might even account for 4% of the game time; and hey, the Superbowl was won on a kick this year.

lyra (lyra), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Soccer's for girls.

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:00 (twenty-two years ago)

cute girls

ejad, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Trudat!

James Blount (James Blount), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I fucking hate penalties.

but I love my brave boys, and we did score a fantastic goal.

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 11:38 (twenty-two years ago)

I liked the shot of the Baltimore Ravens mascot waving the field goal "wide" with his huge orange foam wings while flanked by zebras holding their arms up in the "good field goal" position.

Do they have furry animal mascots in the so-called Champions "football" league? Reason #64 why NFL is the One True Football League.

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Most English football teams do have furry mascots, yes. If that's one of the best defences of the quality of the NFL, you are in enormous trouble.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ho Ho! What does the Tottenham Hotspur look like?

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

heh i always wanted to see a picture of the Wolverhampton Wanderer

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Go Raiders.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.users.zetnet.co.uk/ejones/pics/well98/fow2.jpeg

and you wonder why soccer isn't popular here

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Spurs' mascot is a hyooge hideous cockerel called Chirpy.

Chesterfield have got rid of their mascot "Chester the field mouse" as it was shit and people laughed at it

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Meanwhile, we have this, the greatest mascot of all time:

(shown here with the Philly Phanatic)

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 19:38 (twenty-two years ago)

cyril the swan would kick that green freaks ass

chris (chris), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 19:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Wolverhampton = swishest & most glamourous of all the Hamptons around the world.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 20:07 (twenty-two years ago)

mascot joke = v. funny. Come to think of it, wasn't W. a yell-leader at Yale? And how crazy is that?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

yes, we need to talk more about Cyril the Swan, who is Swansea Citys mascot (obscure and rubbish 3rd division team that no one cares about - sorry future googlers, i didn't mean it)

cyril has been arrested for beating up other mascots, hes a vicious fucker. was it rochdales mascot where he like broke his jaw or something?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 3 October 2002 07:21 (twenty-two years ago)

this seems as good a place as any to mention the Mascot Grand National

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 3 October 2002 07:25 (twenty-two years ago)

tell more about the vicious swan!!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 3 October 2002 17:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Nice going, Ohio State Buckeyes.*

Blount, now you can't say we never talk college football here.

RIP. Also, please a moratorium on the "turn out the lights..." deal when referring to his death, it's already overdone, and the poor man hasnt even been dead 24 hours.
