N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:14 (twenty-two years ago)

that "you know" and then the reference to your family worries me slightly.

As well it might, Angela.

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:23 (twenty-two years ago)

31, surprisingly.

michael wells (michael w.), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:24 (twenty-two years ago)

In houses, 12. However, if you count the hall of residence I lived in during my three years as a student in Bristol, that number swells to a staggering 1252!

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

22.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:27 (twenty-two years ago)

17 i think, unless you count the ymca in romford or the hotel in victoria in which case, many more!

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:30 (twenty-two years ago)

it's got to be over 40 i reckon. probably getting on for 50. i lost count at the shared house in cricklewood. i'll do a list sometime.

Alan (Alan), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Catered halls or residence do not count. Self-catering flats owned by a university do.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Apart from Badock Hall, I have never shared a house with more than three other ppl. It went:

3 (1970-72)
2 (1972-74)
3 (1974-80)
2 (1980-89)

2 (1992-95)
1 (1995-present)

MarkH (MarkH), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:40 (twenty-two years ago)

at least 200. Im a flat slut.

Kiwi, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:43 (twenty-two years ago)

How old are you?

N. (nickdastoor), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Discounting halls, 23.

Ess Kay (esskay), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I can't even live with myself.

Marcello Carlin, Tuesday, 1 October 2002 09:59 (twenty-two years ago)

13 i think.

angela (angela), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:05 (twenty-two years ago)

13 for me, too.

Colin Meeder (Mert), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:07 (twenty-two years ago)

19 I think, but I bet I've missed some out, a couple of my student flats were very transitory, 3 months things in between terms

chris (chris), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:10 (twenty-two years ago)

22.

Ellie (Ellie), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:23 (twenty-two years ago)

30, I'm quite surprised by that.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 10:29 (twenty-two years ago)

7! I have a very small family, and after having a particularly psychotic roomate I swore off sharing a house or apartment again. Til the last year and a half, anyway.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 11:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Golly, I've never really house-shared. So: 3 for the first sixteen years of my life, two after my brother moved out, zero for my postgrad year* and the first five years of my working life**, and one since the summer of '98. That's a total of 4 and they're all related.

(* - if a self-catering hall of res where you don't use the kitchen until the summer when everyone's left and never speak to yr block-mates doesn't count as 'living with').

(** - if a few nights in a hellacious bedsit where I only met the landlady and none of my housemates and scarpered after failing to get the heater working, and didn't contribute to any bills doesn't count as 'living with').

Michael Jones (MichaelJ), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

14 + maybe 4 or 5 lodgers when I was wee. Mum, dad, sister, stepdad, grandmother (not all at the same time), 8 housemates at uni and after, 1 boyfriend.

Archel (Archel), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 12:32 (twenty-two years ago)

18, which i'm surprised about.

jess (dubplatestyle), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 13:19 (twenty-two years ago)

36! I can't believe how many people have stolen my tomato ketchup or seen me bleary-eyed in the morning. (18 of these were from 3 years at Uni in v large shared houses)

C J (C J), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Family of origin = seven
That one really bad relationship wherein we only lasted a month in our own place = one
My S/O and children = four
===========================
Total of 12

ragnfild (ragnfild), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

17 (3 family members, 4 college roommates, 10 post-college housemates). A little surprising, considering how long I've lived alone.

j.lu (j.lu), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 14:00 (twenty-two years ago)

11 I think, and if you get rid of people that I lived with less than three months, it goes down to 8.

Josh (Josh), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

*thinks duly*...somewhere around 30. This counts semi-permanent guests or significant others who really should have paid rent -- the bastards.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 14:52 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, just counting places I've lived in for over a month
7+2+2+7+7+7+7+(3+1 foetus)

which is 42 and a cell cluster.

This string of sevens shows a certain uniformity throughout my uni days.

If you count other people in bedsits in the same house as me you can probably add another 30 or so

Sofa King Alternative (Sofa King Alternative), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 14:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Discounting school (about 200 other boarders) and university (didn't stay long enough to count them), six.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

9, or ~120 depending on how you look at it.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

or 10, really.

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

At least 45, I think.

rosemary (rosemary), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

4 other members of the family, only counting 1 roomate in frosh year since it was a double room, 5 at my apartment, of those 5, one moved to Japan and I moved in with two of the others in a smaller apartment and now its me and my two brothers till I find a new apartment.

So I guess its only been ten.

Mr Noodles (Mr Noodles), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 17:16 (twenty-two years ago)

18 but i'm sure i'm forgetting some. (the 18th put me off housemates for good!! the past 4 years anyway)

the actual mr. jones (actual), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

A deliciously low 7, including family members and two short term lodgers when I was little. I am very antisocial.

Madeleine (Madeleine), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

4 family + 4 college roommates = 8

Vinnie (vprabhu), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 19:23 (twenty-two years ago)

H (Heruy), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 20:34 (twenty-two years ago)

15 I think.. that sounds about right. Not including halls, of course.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 21:59 (twenty-two years ago)

while growing up - 4.

1997 doesn't count as i was in a hall of residence.

1998 - 7 in total, between me and the exes two flats and moving in and out of them.
1999 - 1
2000 - 2
2001 - 4
2002 - 3.
total = 21.

di smith (lucylurex), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

if you do not include the hospital or the boarding school- 3.

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

if you do not include the hospital or the boarding school- 4.

anthony easton (anthony), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

Its in the 40's

brg30 (brg30), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

22 excl.sleepovers and pets

also the first place i lived in as a child was a huge house full of people — haha including a different 60 students every week for 30 weeks of the year — but we had a distinct flat within it, so i'm going with that

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

31 total, including family, in three different cities (Minneapolis, Seattle, Manhattan). not too bad for 27 years old

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 23:08 (twenty-two years ago)

i tht mine wd be more, to be honest

i have just thought of another three, but i think i only lived in that house for four days (during which time i bought kim wilde's first LP and the little sister by raymond chandler, and also answered the door to jehovah's witnesses and discovered that saying "I'm a Buddhist" doesn't work — except perhaps they could tell I was lying) (it smelled REALLY REALLY strongly of bread)

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 23:11 (twenty-two years ago)

About 40. It's kinda hard to remember the punk rock crashpad years. But, like mark, I thought it would be more.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 1 October 2002 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm probably one of the lowest numbers here, I feel so odd now. But if you had had the psycho, "Jennifer Jason Leigh in Single White Female" roomate I had you would know why I preferred to go roomate-less!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

15 people. Parents, brother, roommates, apartmentmates, erstwhile boyfriend.

Jody Beth Rosen, Wednesday, 2 October 2002 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

63.

that's counting foreign students who lived with us at my mother's house from the ages of 8 to 17, sometimes up to three at once.

but without them, 14.

nancy b. (nancy b.), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 01:11 (twenty-two years ago)

14...
2 parents (no siblings)
4 boarding school roommates
2 roommates in brooklyn
3 family I stayed with in chelsea after leaving brooklyn
3 roommates in college

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

39, I think.

Alex in SF (Alex in SF), Wednesday, 2 October 2002 04:06 (twenty-two years ago)

How old are you?

Hi Nick sorry for the delay Im 27.
The same age as Jim (electric) I believe.
Cheers Kiwi

Kiwi, Wednesday, 2 October 2002 13:32 (twenty-two years ago)

3 for me

Madam Plinky (Madam Plinky), Thursday, 3 October 2002 14:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Kiwi your 200 is therefore amazing work. Who moves out, you or them?

N. (nickdastoor), Thursday, 3 October 2002 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

I never really thought about it before. I hate staying in the same place for longer than a year, I dont know why. Living in London 99-2001 blew out the figures- 4 or 5 flats over that time, each with between 10-20 people. Ahh the memories, a cold night crammed on the floor in Wilsden Green- it brings a tear to the eye.

Kiwi, Friday, 4 October 2002 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Not counting dorms, but counting the co-op I lived in for a while at college, 15.

lyra (lyra), Friday, 4 October 2002 03:29 (twenty-two years ago)
