Going to a snooty downtown bar with expensive cocktails and a dress code. I've been here before, but not for a few years, and I can't remember what's good. I'm going to buy one drink and sip it slowly while I catch up with my friend from college. What should I order?

I DIED to thread; I have had more $14 cocktails with him than all other humans combined, I think. Though tabs seem to shrink or disappear mysteriously when he is around, which is probably the only reason I am financially solvent in the weeks following our drinkfests.

For some reason this reminds me of the how my mom learned to use Excel. When I went off to college, my folks gave me a credit card on their account for "emergencies." I only recall using it once, when my car broke down on PA turnpike and the tow truck wouldn't come to get me without a cc number. Comes time for my younger brother to go to college, he was also given an emergency cc.

Parents got the first month of cc charges and told John he needed to gtfo with the bar tab charges; needing drinks did not constitute an emergency. John proceeded to abuse cc privileges for another month, after which my mom enrolled in a 3-hour Excel class for the express purpose of creating a spreadsheet/pie chart to detail his "emergency" expenditures, then cancelled his card.
