Breaking Bad endgame speculation, part 1: Walt's fate (spoilers, obviously)

Tuomas, Friday, 16 August 2013 11:42 (twelve years ago)

I'd guess possible murder/suicide of either Hank or Jesse. Others possibly get shot/poisoned but live.

naus, Friday, 16 August 2013 11:46 (twelve years ago)

And yeah, I know Saul is getting his own spin-off, so he probably won't die... But they could still kill him if the spinoff is set in the past.

I mean, the ricin was for something, right?

naus, Friday, 16 August 2013 11:47 (twelve years ago)

And they seem like the two most likely characters to get it. Not to mention the two most likely to commit suicide over grief or whatever.

naus, Friday, 16 August 2013 11:48 (twelve years ago)

badger

anna gunn's on talking bad sunday. could mean something. could mean nothing.

balls, Friday, 16 August 2013 13:32 (twelve years ago)

can't imagine Saul dying, he's shown too much of a cowardly propensity to get the fuck outta town when things start to get hairy.

SKYLER FFS SKYLER SKYLER SKYLER (Merdeyeux), Friday, 16 August 2013 13:39 (twelve years ago)

Saul's great and all but I want a Skinny Pete and Badger spinoff, so I hope they make it. I can definitely see Badger getting offed this season though - easy to do for the screenwriters because he's not crucial to the plot - plus they always kill off all the fan favourites in the last few episodes on shows like this.

brio, Friday, 16 August 2013 16:37 (twelve years ago)

Saul spinoff could actually be really good the more I think about it - I picture it with a Rockford Files vibe.

brio, Friday, 16 August 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

Hope they don't killer Badger or Pete... I could totally see them in the Saul spinoff, if it's gonna be more comedic than BB.

Tuomas, Friday, 16 August 2013 21:35 (twelve years ago)

badger

conrad, Friday, 16 August 2013 21:38 (twelve years ago)

Badger and Skinny Pete are so goofy, I have to imagine they'll let them live if only to keep reminding us all what Jesse's life would've been like without Walt.

Nhex, Friday, 16 August 2013 21:44 (twelve years ago)

voted for "Skyler & Hank die" on a random hunch.

Walt cared about Skyler, the audience cared about Jesse.

They must die.

Walt lives with this as his punishment.

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Saturday, 17 August 2013 05:47 (twelve years ago)

Everybody lives, because something worse is in store.

Nhex, Saturday, 17 August 2013 05:55 (twelve years ago)

the ricin is such an irritating plot point & beneath this show but it's clear that it plays a role. I think Walt probably takes it himself, possibly with breakfast at that diner we saw him at on his 52nd birthday - or do we now know he goes from the diner to his old house, is that the timeline? at any rate I think the ricin's for him.

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Saturday, 17 August 2013 12:28 (twelve years ago)

yeah, he drives the old clunker - the one with the gun in it - to the house.

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Saturday, 17 August 2013 12:29 (twelve years ago)

I think that sometime in the next seven episodes, Walter's going to have to kill Lydia.

naus, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:35 (twelve years ago)

Didn't he have out of state plates in that diner flash forward?

Josh in Chicago, Saturday, 17 August 2013 23:52 (twelve years ago)

I don't want to have any expectations for this series, but I do have hopes -- that the last episode has at least a few minutes of proper dénouement, and zero slow-motion gunplay/explosions.

Yes, his plates and license were from New Hampshire, which is why the episode was titled "Live Free or Die." He told the waitress that he drove straight out there. The name on the NH license was Walter Lambert, which was Skyler's maiden name.

naus, Sunday, 18 August 2013 00:00 (twelve years ago)

Given the fan-theory that Walter takes on attributes from those he kills, one could speculate that he kills Skyler.

naus, Sunday, 18 August 2013 00:02 (twelve years ago)

Walt's not going to take the ricin; it's a slow, unpleasant death, taking 36-72 hours from inhalation/ingestion), and Walt has other means at his disposal. So far, besides the meth recipe (the P2P synthesis Walt uses was used by 60s biker gangs, and yields at best 50% of the active D-enantiomer), the show has tried to keep the science solid.

400ml rectal air infusion (Sanpaku), Sunday, 18 August 2013 00:07 (twelve years ago)

Sanpaku I have a lot emotionally invested in imagining Walt's meth as just mythologically pure and I have to ask you to take that last comment back

combination hair (underrated aerosmith bootlegs I have owned), Sunday, 18 August 2013 00:37 (twelve years ago)

Walt should put his chemistry genius to work and cure cancer. Two birds, one stone.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 18 August 2013 01:29 (twelve years ago)

xp aerosmith:

Oh, the writers are aware of the issue. From the Breaking Bad wiki:

It is also possible, however, that Walt devised a method (not shown onscreen) for making the P2P process chirally selective and thus producing nearly 100% d-methamphetamine. This is strongly implied when Walt asks Victor, "And if our reduction is not stereospecific, then how can our product be enantiomerically pure?"

From what I gather (chemistry was never a strong suit), there's probably a stereospecific d-methamphetamine synthesis possible, but it wouldn't use the methylamine that drives a lot of BB's plot.
