The problem I have with autumn is that I get too excited at the prospect of *cold weather* and end up wearing too many clothes while it's still sort-of warm.

two months pass...

I've noticed that my irritability rises considerably as the temperature drops. I also get these splitting headaches when it's cold and windy. It's like an ice cream headache that's constant for my entire walk to the train station. I never get headaches otherwise (unless I'm hungover).

Jeff, Thursday, 14 November 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)

Not cold enough imo

Thomas K Amphong (Tom D.), Thursday, 14 November 2013 16:00 (twelve years ago)

one year passes...

i hate winter, i hate still feeling cold, i hate "sunshine and blue skies" being called a "nice day" when i'm still shivering over an electric heater, i hate feeling trapped inside because i have so little desire to go outside, i am SO BORED OF THIS SEASON i just want to be outside and warm again

lex pretend, Friday, 27 February 2015 11:40 (eleven years ago)

hmm, it is quite warm today (saw no need of a scarf for a change), v mild winter for the most part.

xyzzzz__, Friday, 27 February 2015 12:52 (eleven years ago)

I've been doing ok. Ready for it to be over for sure. I have an app that shows count downs to various milestones to look forward to. Only 9 more days until the time change. 19 until the sun sets at 7:00 PM. 21 until the fist day of spring.

Jeff, Friday, 27 February 2015 14:45 (eleven years ago)

Ridiculously cold (~-20C) again this morning. Usually I don't get too bothered with this stuff, but this winter has been particularly rough and I can't remember the last time I was anticipating the end of winter this much.

silverfish, Friday, 27 February 2015 14:57 (eleven years ago)

ottawa enjoyed a stint as the world's coldest capital a few weeks ago. that was...fun

Simon H., Friday, 27 February 2015 15:41 (eleven years ago)

last year i had a harder time. i have moderate seasonal affective disorder but i've been doing better this year, strangely, since in boston this winter has pretty much been a nightmare. i think i've resigned myself to the fact that winter in new england is a 5 month thing. mid-november to mid-april.

the time change and increasing sunlight helps though. all the snow shoveling, too, as much of a pain as it is, has helped me at least get outside and breathe fresh air more

marcos, Friday, 27 February 2015 15:44 (eleven years ago)

Yeah, I am done with this. 6 F/-14C this morning and I was wearing inadequate pants and it was a miserable commute. Although I guess that supports the adage about there not being bad weather, just bad clothing.

And there's still March to get through. What I hate more than anything is wind. Today it's sunny and really not that cold. I'd like to go out, but the wind ruins it. I find it oppressive. You can't relax because you're being buffeted all the time. Rather than the forecast for temperature and rain, the first thing I look at on the BBC weather website is wind speed. Single figures are good but today it's 20 mph.

dubmill, Sunday, 1 March 2015 13:32 (eleven years ago)

So it turns out this was the coldest February in recorded history (115 years) for Montreal. I was right to complain.

silverfish, Sunday, 1 March 2015 13:44 (eleven years ago)

I'm so tired of wearing one hundred layers of clothing.

Started snowing on 1st of March, just as I was hoping weather was improving. Heavy wind before that.

Yevgeny Panteleikin, a local blogger, dumps a bucket of cold liquid nitrogen on himself during a flash mob on the embankment of the Yenisei River in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia, November 20, 2014. Panteleikin and several other enthusiasts poured cold liquid nitrogen on themselves, bearing the temperature of about minus 196 degrees Celsius (minus 320.8 degrees Fahrenheit), while taking part in an event resembling the popular "Ice Bucket Challenge" project and aimed at the popularization of natural sciences among children and teenagers. The experiment demonstrated the Leidenfrost effect phenomenon, in which a liquid produces a layer of insulating vapor that prevents the liquid getting into a direct contact with a surface much hotter than the liquid's boiling point, according to organizers

Rainbow DAESH (ShariVari), Wednesday, 4 March 2015 08:47 (eleven years ago)

you can put liquid nitrogen in your mouth, as long as you keep swishing it around

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

this is a phenomenally bad idea, but I have heard tell of it happening

mh, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 14:46 (eleven years ago)

it is 40 degrees in boston today and it feels super warm

marcos, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 15:59 (eleven years ago)

Currently 73˚F
Percent chance of freezing rain all night tonight: 100

mookieproof, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 22:10 (eleven years ago)

lol, yes.

It hit 82 about an hour and a half ago, now 60 and dropping like a rock. No storms though, which is weird. Usually with that kind of differential we'd have half the neighborhood picked up and dropped down in Oz.

WilliamC, Wednesday, 4 March 2015 22:17 (eleven years ago)

Suddenly seemed very bright and sunny here in Galway too. Not sure about warmth & I spent most of the day trying to get a jacketr finished so I missed the weather. Did catch some of it though.

Stevolende, Sunday, 8 March 2015 20:37 (eleven years ago)
