Once, when I was a teenager. Was with a group of friends trespassing on a boat on the river Severn. We weren't doing anything but we shouldn't have been on there. Most of us got away, the group split and once a couple of us got round a corner just stopped running and tried to act normal and they ran straight past. One of the others got caught but I think they just bollocked him and let him go, don't think he was arrested. There was a festival going on in the town at the time, so there was a lot of youngsters up to no good that night, people jumping off bridges into the river, etc.

Yes, stealing shopping carts from behind a mall. We managed to ditch the carts but my friend got caught when he ran onto private property to hide. Since no one had any actual contraband on them, everyone was let go with a warning not to screw around in a shopping center at midnight-ish.

Again, just for young teen shit. Me and a group of friends had a bonfire on a bit of public woodland. It got a bit bigger than intended (though not out of hand), and next thing we knew there were firefighters and police coming through the woods at us. We fled.

I am scared of cops so basically them just speaking is like an imaginary freeze-ray gun that holds me in place. but haven't run afoul of them yet other than traffic stops.

Yes for dumb drunken college stuff, like breaking into private pools or stealing empty kegs from people's porches. I was never caught. I have also stayed right where the cops wanted me to stay. I have never been arrested. *knocks madly on wood*

Yes, lots of times, almost always for skateboarding. Once an overeager campus security guard (not an actual police officer) took all our boards away from us, we used the courtesy phone to call the real campus cops who came and gave us our boards back and, I believe, fired the security guard. Later it got to the point where I wouldn't run and would try to just reason things out with them which worked surprisingly often.

Another time we being followed - not actively chased, no sirens or lights - by a cop car and were able to sneak into a garage and close the door right before the cop turned onto the street and kept driving around with a spotlight trying to see where the car went.

Got arrested once but there was no running involved.

Quite a few times when younger, nothing serious though, usually for pranks and fireworks. Always gave a false arrest when caught, police said they would chat to parents. Once we were chased for playing knock-a-door-run if you can believe the police would chase you for that, mind you it was about 30 years ago.

Never run away from cops on foot (at least that I can remember) but have evaded/lost them when driving.

Done this a few times, in illegal political demonstrations, when they started to arrest people. Never got caught in those situations, though I have been arrested once, but that was for other reaons.

At Notting Hill Carnival late 1990s. A bunch of friends at taken a short cut through private garden. Police had blocked off the route we wanted to go so we had decided it was the only way through. I was last to go and a copper arrived and told me in no uncertain terms if I jump the fence I'd be arrested straight away. I could hear my friends calling me to jump. Seconds later another guy made a run for it and the police tackled him to the ground. By the time he'd noticed me and turned to chase I was out of reach. Stupid of me to tempt arrest really.

I ran away from at least TWO COPS who were in a COP VAN. What happened was I was kicking a piece of plastic fencing that had been put up around a lamp post, and they came past, slowed down and said 'oi', so I ran away, and they stopped, opened the door of the van, but then just drove off.

Run from the cops and got away.
Run from the cops and came back and got let off.
Didn't run from the cops and was let go.
Didn't run from the cops and was taken in.
Talked sense to a cop and was given a break.
Circled back and watched a cop from a comfortable seat.

Some of it was in cars and some of it was on foot. running, and cuffs, and shotguns, backseat of a cop car, and cells, and home, and parents, and picking up friends who got taken downtown. It helps to be white, and I've never forgotten that or taken it for granted.

As a drunk teenage passenger, when your buddy decides to floor it, you just tighten your belt and clear your mind. On foot, you have to do your own thinking.

but yes i have run from the cops, once. they showed up at a high school party and a bunchof us went out the back door and ran, jumping over fences and through backyards. me and my immediate group of friends didn't get caught, not sure about the rest. they kept yelling "no, stop running!" super fun experience for a high school kid

also, you can do all the obstacle courses and hurdles you like, but imo you never really go in hard on that stuff until you got a flashing light on yr tail, i only wish i'd had someone timing us over the sixty yards of open ground before we flew over the wall into the convent, and safety

Cousin told me about a patrolman in Oakland they used to call track star that you could never get away from, turned out he actually did run track in college.

I was driving through town late at night with a headlight out and saw a cop running from a gas station store to his cruiser as I passed. Past bar-closing time the cops in this town will pull anyone over for the slightest of reasons in hope of catching someone on a DUI. I cut through a parking lot to get on the next street over, then parked in a different lot across that street. Laid down in the front seat as the cop came by twice shining his light in the windows, then got out and walked the rest of the way to my place and saw them drive by twice more. Fixed the headlight the next day.
