guys come on

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:13 (twelve years ago)

had to watch all of these with an ex and iirc it was a pretty different show in the first season -- sharper and meaner and less schmaltzy than it became later on. so i guess i'll vote for that.

(The Other) J.D. (J.D.), Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:30 (twelve years ago)

3. the whole cheating-on-Aidan plot around the middle of the season was the peak imo.

best ep probably My Motherboard My Self though.

piscesx, Thursday, 26 September 2013 00:40 (twelve years ago)

I started watching in Two -- lasted thru Four, I think -- but any season where SJP was not an exec producer is defensible.

I think Two also had the ep where Carrie unwitting started dating a guy who liked to pee during sex, and I laughed a lot at her refusing water during an Indian dinner.

The first time I watched this show I watched it from ep 1 to ep final in like a month and I had never done the "sex" thing really and so I am going to have a lot of fun rewatching it after v much having "been there done that" iykwim

The utterly terrible films have made me forget how this was mostly a sharp, fun and smart show, at least up until they went to LA and hung out with Hugh Hefner, which was the start of the beginning of the end for me.

good new yorker piece on how this show's rep slowly declined over time:

Suppose what I've always wondered is whether sex and the city is a) actually how some people live b) kinda exaggerated version of how some people live or c) total fantasy.

cardamon, Thursday, 26 September 2013 01:33 (twelve years ago)

a little bit of a, b, c

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 01:39 (twelve years ago)

rewatching this is making me realize how this is waaaaay more similar to Girls than I initially realized

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 01:41 (twelve years ago)

otm. i thought the same.

piscesx, Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:03 (twelve years ago)

S1 had the whole talking-to-the-camera thing as well as a much more anecdotal/ensemble feel to it. I dont know if it got worse by abandoning that approach but it definitely became different. 3 or 4 probably the best but I should look at an episode list. By the time the ballet guy showed up it was pretty insufferable.

what's up ugly girls? (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:29 (twelve years ago)

lol ballet guy... you mean Baryshnikov?

i wanna be a gabbneb baby (Hungry4Ass), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:30 (twelve years ago)

Fuck if I'm spelling that on my phone

I remember the last season being reaaaaally rushed and plot-movey and totally awful

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:37 (twelve years ago)

Sex & The City made a whole bunch of Midwestern gals move to NY to "become Carrie" so goddammit to hell

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:53 (twelve years ago)

oh come on no one actually did that

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:56 (twelve years ago)

maybe like 15 people total

Tetsu: The Inoue Man (Stevie D(eux)), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:56 (twelve years ago)

look at them, I can see them "being in the show" on the subway.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 26 September 2013 02:57 (twelve years ago)

nobody on the show ever rode the subway. they all took cabs.

the cure is worse than the frizz-ease (get bent), Thursday, 26 September 2013 03:10 (twelve years ago)

i take cabs sometimes too omg i'm such a carrie

the cure is worse than the frizz-ease (get bent), Thursday, 26 September 2013 03:10 (twelve years ago)

Six??? Is Baryshnikov lurking?

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Friday, 27 September 2013 00:08 (twelve years ago)

Six actually has a ton of good stuff that doesn't involve Carrie - Charlotte & Harry's wedding, Samantha's cancer, Miranda caring for Steve's mum and moving out of Manhattan. It's just all that terrible Baryshnikov bollocks that ruins it.

ailsa, Friday, 27 September 2013 00:14 (twelve years ago)

ok, I'll take that on faith.

Miss Arlington twirls for the Coal Heavers (Dr Morbius), Friday, 27 September 2013 00:23 (twelve years ago)

I genuinely didn't realise that Berger was a season 6 thing until I read some episode recaps. It was a bloody long season with a lot of stuff in it.
