i think this practice may have originated in some large-scale offices/bureaucracies where you used to indicate if a letter needed to go out first class rather than the standard second, but on the other hand it could just be because people are buffoons

I find the freeman stuff really interesting. It seems a bit less prevalent than it was a couple of years back, when capitalism was burning in a righteous fire etc etc. Politically, the OG American import is pretty straight up anarcho-capitalism.
