i haven't seen any of season 8 yet. I think it's less about it being cancelled, and more like some of the seasons in the middle were super weak - esp. season 3.

Any season that features a re-appearance by his brother the Ice Truck Killer is a good one.

is this actually about you wanting to get up on the Ice Truck Killer

I think what it comes down to is that 1, 2, and 4 are pretty decent and the rest can probably get thrown out

Every season but the first had some big issues. I suppose 4->5 was the biggest dropoff, but fuck it - after season 1, END IT

xp - he's such a great character. I dunno, I think the last 2 seasons were ok, not as stellar as 1, 2 and 4 -- but I feel like they are significant in terms of character development.

1&2 were pretty good, 3 was meh, didn't finish 4

I liked season 6 way better than season 5. Season 5 seemed like a retread, and Season 7 seemed a bit too similar to Season 5, but the development with Deb knowing about Dexter made it more engaging

I think I might be short-changing 7, I liked the psycho russian killer boss

Can we all agree that season 8 was a shitpile, despite a couple mildly entertaining parts

S1 had the best balance of Dexter killing monsters of the week while building the big bad story, I lost interest when it started to tilt toward the big bad in emphasis.

I like the psycho russian and the whole storyline with Quinn.

Is Season 8 over?

I guess there was enough interest in the "Dexter's in hiding in the northeast and also his son's an adult now and finds him" thing that was Dexter: New Blood to make Dexter: Resurrection. They really buried the lede by really grinding in the status quo for three episodes before introducing what's probably the main intrigue: there's a social meet-up club of killers coordinated by a venture capital millionaire. The goofy yet intriguing bit is that the group is all punchy character actors. Might be goofy enough to have some redeeming bits.

I also completely forgot that I'd made this thread years ago, likely memory-holed with the rest of the really bad seasons.

I never watched New Blood even, but I am curious about this new one.

Did anyone watch the Young Dexter one?

Also, according to wikipedia there is a Trinity Killer spin off show in development for 2026.

damn, I completely forgot there was a young Dexter one between the Dexter-in-hiding one and this one

I did watch it, it's ehhh. The casting for some of the younger versions of the characters like Masuka is pretty good. It's mostly "this is how Dexter came of age and decided to work for the police" and was mostly unmemorable. Lots of flashbacks involving Harry's affair with Dexter's biological mother, but not really any plot points that gave you anything new.
