In 2006, the annual Creamfields dance festival was held in Daresbury after relocating from the disused Liverpool airport site it had occupied for the 6 previous years. This saw 40,000 revellers partying from 3pm-6am to a line-up that included live performances from The Prodigy and Zutons, as well as DJ sets from the likes of Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, 2 Many DJ's, Green Velvet and DJ Shadow. As of 2012, the festival has been an annual event at the site.

I like Alice in Wonderland.

"But I don't want to go among mad people," Alice remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: "We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice.
"You must be," said the Cat, "otherwise you wouldn't have come here."

What a shame, if only those people who built this place could see how it turned out in the end.... It actually looked great in the 70's, glad I left as soon as I could

OMG didn't it all look so good back then, We moved into Kingshead Castlefields in 1971 from Liverpool, it makes me so sad now to see how it all turned out. I no longer live in Castlefields but still live in Runcorn. But thanks for posting this video

The wealthy citizens of rural Cheshire are the worst kind of moneyed cunt, not a trace of noblesse oblige between them. They are pushing out the remaining agricultural families, who are a bunch of vile rugby club kulaks in any case. Near my office I regularly see a shit bike of some sort with a #JusticeForChed sticker on the windscreen.

Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy (as of September 2010; previously Halton High School) is a mixed, non-denominational secondary school in Runcorn taking pupils within the ages 11–16 with a pupil roll of 526.[12] It was created following the closure of Norton Priory and Brookvale high schools. An application has been made for the school to work in conjunction with The Innovation Unit.[13]

i was once regaled about the prelapsarian alderley edge of the mid 1990s by one of those acidly melancholic northern people who move to london at 22 and think everything's a bit shit really but never go home

described as a mixture of fairly humdrum snooty middle class and the newest of money, the one resenting and the other not giving a shit, his claim to fame was getting a rise out of andy cole during a pub lunch by congratulating him on 'outstanding'

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:23 (eleven years ago)

It's easy to forget that there are normal people in alderley edge. Your acquaintance sounds like the inverse of me, sitting in south Manchester pubs moaning about the new build residential architecture of west London.

"Left-wing" poptimism: An infantile disorder (oppet), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:31 (eleven years ago)

vile rugby club kulaks

excellent phrase

how does this work in cheshire? because you're closer to the m62 corridor and LEAGUE than most of the kulak rugby strongholds in the home counties, the midlands, the west country etc

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:33 (eleven years ago)

Warrington and Widnes are both big business in league, yeah. But afaict the local town clubs in prosperous Cheshire tend towards union. Not really sure why this would be tbh, beyond the usual class divide. Not sure how this might cross over with cricket too, Cheshire being a nothing county in this regard.

"Left-wing" poptimism: An infantile disorder (oppet), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:40 (eleven years ago)

think Cheshire just won the Minor Counties championship actually

"Left-wing" poptimism: An infantile disorder (oppet), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago)

yeah i didn't doubt for a second they would align their code via class rather than locality

rather like those sedate outlying bits of buenos aires where it's strictly cricket and tennis at the country clubs (forgiven for giving the world juan martin del potro)

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:43 (eleven years ago)

would do my 'cricket isn't a posh sport!!' bit but it'd probably fall on deaf ears

HAVE YOU SEEN ME? Please don't hesitate (imago), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:45 (eleven years ago)

no i suppose in england it's more exurban/rural petit bourgeois with a bit of moneyed kulak and a bit of rural working class, except for london where most of the people who really care about cricket are probably from the south asian diaspora, but outside of england and the traditional cricket playing countries it's likely going to code pretty bougie

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:49 (eleven years ago)

it's quite possible carlos tevez didn't even see a cricket match until he saw one through the tinted rear windows of a bmw x5 en route from the airport to his new wilmslow manse or maybe an introductory fuckparty at carrington

Nilmar Honorato da Silva, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:51 (eleven years ago)

Cheshire feels psychologically further from the M62 corridor than it is geographically, ime

footballer of the future (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago)

long history of class snobbery WITHIN cricket, cf. Gentlemen vs Players matches in 19th century, England captain in early Test days usually privately-educated Army man with Oxbridge education, but there's always been and always will be a very strong working-class element in the English game

ok can't actually cope with that last post. you have ruined me

HAVE YOU SEEN ME? Please don't hesitate (imago), Wednesday, 16 October 2013 22:53 (eleven years ago)

I'm fully on board with cricket not being posh tbf. Asian diaspora also accounts for a high percentage in Manchester/urban West Yorkshire/prob South Lancashire too.

Terry Litz, aged 52, was found slumped against the kitchen worktop of his Bewsey home after calling to his girlfriend, on July 21 at around 10.45pm, Warrington Coroners’ Court heard on Wednesday.

Adele Harrison-Litz, his girlfriend, of Hood Manor, said: “He went to shut the back door and I heard him shout ‘oh my God babe’.

“Everything went quiet and I heard a bang and found him slouched against the kitchen top with his back to me.

“I heard a strange noise like he was choking.

“I lay him on the floor on his side and it was as if he wanted to say something but couldn’t. By the time I lay him on his back, the whites of his eyes had filled with blood.”

Toxicology tests found evidence of previous cocaine use and tamoxifen, a cancer drug occasionally used bodybuilders to cancel the breast-boosting effects of steroids.

Evidence of surgery from when Mr Litz was shot in 2002 at a KFC restaurant in Hanley, Stoke, was also found.
