I don't know much of anything about this, other than a rather silly programme on Channel 4. What's the deal? Genuine Pagan Roots or New Age Nonsense?

Genuine Pagan Roots or New Age Nonsense
these aren't mutually exclusive

i was a witness at a wiccan wedding years ago. it was in the home of one of those new age crystal ladies... all i remember is her carpeting looked like if someone ate an entire birthday cake with those multi-colored confetti crunchy bits and then threw up everywhere and she decided to go with the look.
other bits and pieces were a hand tying ceremony and calls to the spirit of the trees, spirit of water, spirit of fire, and spirit of earth. i think she was summoning captain planet to ward over their marriage.

I guess I meant to ask if it's just some authentic pagan things just mixed around with new age nonsense added in.

Many pagan traditions were pretty damed sophisticated and involved very intricate and intertwined myths and ceremonies. A general theme was that one learned them through direct transmission from the most knowlegeable of one's elders.
Wiccans, however well-intentioned they are, have very shallow roots in older pagan traditions, which have mostly been lost because of breaks in the chain of transmission. They are, at best, reconstructing a pastiche which might, over time, evolve into a paganism equally sophisticated and well-adapted to the needs of the society where they are practised. Present day Wiccans are at least a couple of centuries away from this possible outcome.

A Ghost is Born wasn't bad either. Maybe this is the appropriate thread after all.
