Pretending your life is OK when it's not.

THe best charades exchange I've ever seen occurred between my wife and one of our college friends. College friend got his slip of paper, with a seemingly impossible word on it. He looked at, thought for a second, then turned to his team (which included my wife). He signalled one word, turned around and pointed at his ass, then adopted a crucifixion pose. My wife instantly said, "Analgesic!"

The rest of the room was stunned. The game was pretty lacklustre after that.

My breathless and enthusiastic enactment of 'Coming Home' has become a legend round these parts.

C J (C J), Thursday, 3 October 2002 17:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan's story tops all stories ever on this subject. It also demonstrates why he married her, for surely she is one of the cleverest and funniest people on the planet, and he recognized this wisdom. :-)

I play a game with my friend Jordan where I pretend to be his scary alcoholic grampa, and try to get him to sit on my lap.

*squeals* no grampa no!!

im not sure to what extent we're acting out actual childhood traumas of his.

I've had v.similar things happen to me in games of charades. Can't remember the details. Sometimes.. you just know.
In the UK, our games of charades have been polluted by 'Give Us A Clue' and they are always about guessing the title of a film/book/play etc. and never just a word.

Poor N., he needs hugglez.

Are you sure he doesn't need Snuggles?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Friday, 4 October 2002 12:12 (twenty-three years ago)

"The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind". i guessed this in 3 seconds once in a game of charades. my boyfriend was the one acting it though so "couple interference!" was shouted by everyone else and we were sent to separate teams. *sniff*

angela (angela), Friday, 4 October 2002 12:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I once tried to act out "Epigrams By Martial" but no one got it and eventually collapsed with exhaustion. Idiots.

The Origin of Consciousness in the Breakdown of the Bicameral Mind

Dear God I haven't seen or thought of that phrase in a *long* time.

N. (nickdastoor), Friday, 4 October 2002 12:30 (twenty-three years ago)
