Tough Mudder

乒乓, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 17:29 (eleven years ago)

tough mudder looks like it could be a lot of fun.

xfit is really culty and self-involved, and for all the obviously good stuff they're doing (run! lift! work out really hard! eat!) it doesn't really seem to require the early-christian zeal they bring to it.

if "fitness shit people post to facebook" is the genre here, wtf is up with that "color run" business? do not even get.

Rhabdomyolysis or death by drowning?

kate78, Tuesday, 15 October 2013 17:51 (eleven years ago)

I was going to say something about rhabdomyolysis re: Crosfit's obviously good stuff

ha the 'early-christian zeal' crack is looking even better now! that's like monastic martyr level self-punishment

I guess I shouldn't speak too down-ly on tough mudder when I am such a big fan of Ninja Warrior

but the name is unbearable

Has anyone died doing Ninja Warrior? I get the sense that they care just a teensy bit more about contestant safety.

xp CrossFit people are jokey about rhabdomyolysis, but I wonder how often it actually happens to them. Inducing rhabdo is pretty damned hard, as I understand it. I'm not saying it doesn't occur or that CrossFit trainers shouldn't be held accountable for failing to protect the people they're coaching, but I suspect it's less common than that article suggests.

You people are obviously far superior specimens to me, a friend just did it and sounds hellish.

Rhabdo is less an issue to me than the general stupidity of doing things that are going to be very very bad for your shoulders (and body in general) in the long run - kipping pull-ups, high-rep Olympic lifts for time, etc. All to be the 'best at exercising.'

Local charity mud runs are awesome.
The original (in the US, my understanding is that the Tough Mudder people ripped off a UK event) Death Race (24 hours with absurd tasks like memorizing Presidents in the rain between hill sprints while carrying a tree stump you had to remove from the ground) was pretty cool.
Tough Mudder and all the corporate bro-ing out in a field races are lame.

I guess I'll vote Tough Mudder as the worst.
